Erik, I have added commiserations on your post. Feel free to delete my post here if awkward questions. Were you descending around a corner, close to the centre of the road? Is that why the woman was startled and did not have far to go to get into your 'escape lane'? Would not excuse the woman for moving into your path or not saying sorry. Hope not, because in some conditions hard to hear quiet vehicle that is occupying more than one lane.

Anyway, if you are completely in the right, there is a Hills and Valley Messenger newspaper. You could approach them with your story to vent and warn pedestrians to do the right thing. The woman will have told friends, and might be embarrassed when she hears of your injuries and reminded that she did not say sorry. If you were completely in the right, had witnesses and knew her name, you could sue her. Raises the question of when a pedestrian causes a road collision where someone is injured, do they need to stop and give their details? Required to when a vehicle.

Please report it to the police as a road accident, which you are entitled to because you were injured. Do not think you are entitled to reimbursement of medical costs, because it did not include a registered vehicle. I am still getting expensive physio 6 months after a broken shoulder. However, you could ask the lawyers who advertise on AC.

Best wishes for a recovery. Heather.

Hi Erik,

Welcome to Adelaide Cyclists. You might be interested in joining AC group Commuters and, if you cycle in the city, Adelaide BUG.

A current discussion on Adelaide BUG of What cycling facilities would you like at http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/adelaidebug/forum/topics/what-cycling-facilites-would-you-like

I coordinate four AC groups with emphasis on improving cycling conditions: Adelaide BUG, Prospect BUG, Look For Cyclists and Vote For Cyclists. There is more info in the introduction on each group web page.

Cheers, Heather
