"I like this Government (NSW) Advertisement. A large motorway with motorists in the background who are outnumbered by people on an overcrowded traffic island with nowhere left to stand (nowhere for mother and child in pram).
"LAMBS TO THE…"
"In the small ( population 20,000 ), regional city of Burnie in Tasmania, six sets of traffic lights in about 3 km, several less than 100 metres apart, need to be negotiated to leave the town on Bass Highway on the way to Hobart. The next set is in…"
"Let's NOT do what Sir Simon says.
Of course traffic authorities get it wrong - a lot - but think about say Cnr Greenhill & Fullarton, both carrying 40K cars per day. On the other hand, well designed roundabouts on some quieter…"
"Why do stupid ideas like this make the news and yet there are high quality bike blogs around (eg: war-on-the-motorist, as-easy-as-riding-a-bike, a-view-from-the-cycle-path, copenhagenize and many others) making intelligent points all the time that…"
"Not only do they run reds for convenience they also run it to avoid taking off with machines. I feel less inclined to run reds on Adelaides wide roads than i do on Sydneys tight streets.
Either way people should be allowed to do things…"
"Following the trend of Qld, ACT, NT and Tas by legalising riding on the footpath is a good way to minimise this.
People should be permitted to use the footpath, that way they have an opportunity to make their way to the nearest crossing. Being…"
"A lot of riders in NYC travel in the opposite direction to motorised traffic. That's because a bunch of idiot car centric traffic engineers thought the best way to deal with congestion would be to make many of their wide multi laned roads one…"
"There's pro's and cons to riding on the same side of the road as oncoming traffic. The biggest pro is its very hard to get doored, if someone in a car does open their door it will just slam back in their face.
Riding on the…"
"A congestion tax has already been recommended. It very much makes sense in Aussieland, driving in rural Australia needs to remain cheap whereas it should have more of a pay as we go format in the populated parts of our country. "
Mail Call is the company I've talked to and plan on meeting with next week. Luckily the bike in the photo is no longer with me, I have changed my daily ride to a practical SS for the work. I do plan on taking on the job as a short term source of cash and also for a bit of fun but if I like it and the pay works out then I'll continue until something better comes up.
it does show a 5.6% increase in motor vehicle use for the period after Mhl's were introduced. I cannot read the table. Need to consider other factors, like more women in the work force and women's wages increasing, therefore more women buying cars and driving, than catching public transport.
back in adl last sunday and not going on to sydney. realised would be off my bike for a few weeks but also unable to carry backpack while sightseeing. saw my gp which prompted 7 medical appts this week. mullumbimby nsw hospital missed that i have a hand fracture and broken arm. actually a broken shoulder which doctor said is the worst type of fracture. later there will be 3 months of extensive physio. doctor questioned if i could afford it. can you enquire about nsw councils and any liability for injuries caused by poor road maintenance. i know that in sa authorities have attempted to limit any liability via statute law.
It's really great to see some single speed riders joining up. This site is really more about 'urban riding' (although there are a few roadies and MTB riders as well). I think there are some genuinely interested riders who want to know more about riding and building fixed - like me!
I/we hope you get something from the site and you can contribute with some posts or by adding some pictures or videos (you can add interesting YouTube clips easily). You can also join, or create your own, subgroups.
Thanks for answering the sign up questions. The beer one is simply about filtering out the non-Adelaide people (spammers).
In the next little while we are planning on a meet up or swap meet of some kind.
