I would not cycle on Port Wakefield Road either. Last year a female cyclist was killed on Cavan Road when she went under the wheels of a heavy vehicle. The truck was photographed without underrun panels that would have prevented this from happening. Even if a truck overtook too closely or the driver did not allow for 'wind factor'. I wrote to politicians, asking for mandatory underrun panels as recommended by a MUARC study in 2002. I also asked for some vacant land to be used for separated bicycle lanes. No responses from the politicians. If you would like to contact politicians, let me know to forward background info. Takes more than one cyclist to get results.
If you have a car with bike carrier, you will be able to get to some AC rides without cycling on Port Wakefield Road.
