Now I know what the new posts are for. Cycle route signs being added for North Parkland through to and across Regency Road. Is this all we get for the Braund Boulevard planned to roll out a year ago.…Continue
"Yep - will take picture and have a look when i get a chance. It would be best to do when cyclists are present. I did note cyclists and pedestrians having trouble crossing there during my time observing bike count for Adelaide City Council recently."
"Peter, you picked my typo. Yes, southern end of Braund Rd. Between Fitzroy Tce and Barton Tce it is Jeffcott Rd. Further south it becomes Jeffcott St with bicycle lanes.
In 2015, as coordinator of Adelaide & Prospect BUGs, I forwarded a…"
"I assume you meant the southern end of Braund Rd, not the northern. :)
Maybe the new path is not complete? It would be really good if the sealed shared path continued alongside Jeffcott Street, all the way from, Fitzroy Tce to Barton Tce. Looking at…"
"Jilden, the local cyclists and pedestrians tend not to use that east-west shared path, when travelling south to the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, O'Connell St or CBD.
Look at a map to visualise this scenario. Get to the northern end of Braund Rd…"
"When I was there yesterday a brand new shared path on the southern side of Fitzroy Tce seemed to take cyclists towards the swim centre from the Prospect Rd lights. I didn't follow it but will at some other time."
"Jilden, can ride west, then south to cross Fitzroy Tce, to Jeffcott Rd where the kerbside lanes are too narrow for safe cycling. Need a safe crossing to access the shared path through the parklands, as well as the Adelaide Aquatic Centre."
"I rode through there today and used the Prospect Rd pedestrian crossing. There seems to be a new shared path on both sides of Fitzroy Tce allowing easy travel to this crossing. Would add a few minutes to your commute and reduce your risk at mid…"
"David, can you please take and post photos of where southern Braund Rd meets Fitzroy Terrace?
Recently Transport made the pedestrian-bicycle passageway more hazardous. In the verge, short grasses were planted to the right of drivers, but tall shrubs…"
"David, thanks for raising again the need for a safe cyclist and pedestrian crossing.
Below is an extract from Prospect BUG Jan-2015 submission to DPTI re its plan to upgrade Park Terrace, Fitzroy Terrace and Torrens Road. The upgrade added…"
"We also have the naming of the Devonport Bikeway along the railway following Devonport Terrace. I think it is good to have the signage. I'm not sure if it is clear where to go after crossing at the Torrens Road end. Perhaps some more signs or…"
"Peter, most of Braund Road is too narrow for bicycle lanes. The southern end is wider, and facilitated installing a section of bicycle lane, but within the car dooring zone.
Multiple council reports over the years have identified excess…"
"The Prospect Mayor David O’Loughlin stood as a candidate during state govt elections when Labor promised a Braund Bikeway. Installation of traffic calming was supposed to start before this financial year. Now some direction signage without the…"
David, today learnt that plain clothes police patrolling bikes cos many thefts. Frequent complaints from cyclists in your locale who cannot get place in secure bike cage. Even complaints that the newer racks hard to use (and do not meet Austroads or Australian Standards for secure locking). The one-off cage designs have been too expensive for the uni. A while back I gave you info from Bicycle Network Victoria on what might be flat-pack cages. Now is the time for you to follow this up with potential success. A roof would satisfy some who like to keep their bike out of the rain and sun. Marc who told me the news said that some areas where if locking gates with swipe cards installed, this would make bikes more secure. Another approach that is used by ACC for its staff at 25 Pirie. Includes a roof supported by 4 poles. Reminiscent of bus shelters -- not surprising because made by Adshell. Marc said that roof would be too expensive for this or cage, so be prepared to back down on roof request.
Yesterday I encouraged someone to Ride2Work and the free breakfast in Victoria Square. The tempter for the first 1,000 is a coffee voucher to use immediately. There will be some stalls there for paying customers of coffee, smoothies mixed on a bicycle, and the Veggie Velo cart pulled by a bike.
