The aim of this group is to build upon previously published information on cycling blackspots, to try and get as many Adelaide cyclists as possible to have an input on what the worst blackspots for them is and suggest how to fix it.

I have had some success calling SAPOL when persistent offenders have parked in bicycle lanes and clearways by reporting that the vehicle is illegally parked in a bicycle clearway (even when technically it is only a bicycle lane) and that it is causi…

How is this to catch out the unsuspecting cyclist. As you come down Blacks rd, Gilles Plains in the morning it looks like an unobstructed run down the bike line, but look closely and hidden n the shadows in a man hole sticking up in the middle of th…

With the help of BISA, we have successfully lobbied the government to change the regulations (PDF) regarding bicycle size restrictions. Regulation 28 (Dimensions of bicycles) has been removed. What is no longer in the regulations: 28—A person must…

One suggestion I have been meaning to make to the pollies is that bike lanes which only operate for certain times should have timed parking at other times. While ideally we would like all bike lanes to operate 24 hours a day, many only operate at pe…

I have usually started with someone and hooked up with others I know along the way, but always seem to finish alone. In the past though I have found it easier to stick together or to hook onto a bunch doing my pace, but I think it has become so big…

EDGE OF SHARED PATHS The edge of some shared paths is very dangerous. Any square edge that is greater than 10mm deep, and extends for more than 1 metre will "trip" a bicycle. Any square edge greater than 20mm is a hazard for pedestrians also. Pleas…

I have reported the "horrendous surface" to the Dept of Transport Hotline (1800 018 313) on 22 Jan. You can see video footage of the squeeze at Anzac Hwy AND Mooringie Ave here http://roadrepair.blogspot.com/2010/01/hazard-marion-rd-between-tram-lin

Marion Rd between Anzac Highway and Cross Rd yields a similar experience to what's illustrated in the video. Good bike lanes before and after, but a 250-odd metre stretch of running the gauntlet, often with heavy vehicles bearing down on you. The no…

One possibility is to complain to council, but they may chose instead to remove the bicycle signage. I used to complain to a council about the repeated illegal parking in the bike lane outside an ice rink (no conflicting parking signs) but I got now…

Conflicting parking signs in bike lanes

Has anyone else noticed how when new bike lanes are put in, existing parking signage which conflicts with the bike lane is not removed? for example the new bike lane along Frome Rd past the Uni still has "No standing between 7am and 7pm". Technically outside these hours cars should not park there as it is still a dedicated bike lane, yet after 7pm, cars park along here as they always have done. Personally I don't have a problem with the cars being there at this time apart from the fact that it m… Continue

Video of typical commuter hazards

With all the publicity on cycling in the Advertiser over the past couple of days, I felt inspired to video some of my ride to work. I have published a clip on youtube showing the way in which one is forced to bolt for your life from where the bike lane ends at the Shudholz/NE road intersection to the next segment of bicycle lane several hundred meters along NE Road. Check it out at Continue

New bike paths announcement

There is an item on the AdelaideNow site today about some supposedly new (it's hard to tell noways with governments always re announcing good news) funding for bike paths. Anyway you might want to comment and take the opportunity to lobby for other areas to be fixed. The story can be found at

Pedal Power initiative

Cyclists commuting in from or through Prospect Council may wish to take part in the Pedal Power initiative set up with SA TravelSmart. Information & survey, go to
http://www.prospect.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=762&c=3743

I made the point that the Adelaide city council has put in many bicycle lanes, but they all end and the Prospect city council boundary.

G'day. Thanks for joining. It's a small group at the moment but I reckon with the number of cyclists in Adelaide it should grow, It is totally non profit no motivating interests except love of bikes.
