A ride down memory lane

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 15:00 5 Comments

Last Friday night after work, as the weather was particularly pleasant and my mood wasn't conducive to being at home, I decided it would be a good idea to go for a nice, casual bike ride. Rather than my usual sprint down to the beach or up Waterfall Gully, I decided to take a ride down memory lane.

My first real foray into regularly riding a bike came about 12 years ago. Yes, I did a bit of spinning around the BMX track as a youngster; and during high school I would jump on my…

Two days of suffering - my introduction to racing

Posted on August 29, 2011 at 20:38 21 Comments

For the past 10 or so years, I have been riding a road bike. Initially it started out as smallish rides of 20-30km, then hills were introduced. Longer rides then started to feature on my schedule, along with a bit more frequent riding during the week. A couple of years ago, the challenge of the Bike SA rides (Coast to Coast, Grand Slam series, Amy's Ride) caught my attention and have given them all a shot or two. Obviously, over the course of time, my cycling adventures have slowly…

Sometimes, you just have to take a break

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 22:01 9 Comments

After reading Peter's post about his "holiday from cycling", I felt compelled to share one of my reasons for my own small break from the bike every now and then.

For a few different reasons, I have not been able to ride this weekend. Coming down with the flu has not helped and the weather has not exactly been conducive to going for a good spin, but regardless of these issues, I may have struggled a little bit if I was on the saddle anyway.

As some of you may know, I have a…

Quick and easy banana cake

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 21:29 6 Comments

This is the recipe I use for making banana cake on a fairly regular basis. Its extremely easy and gives good results, which makes it perfect for us guys who are a bit fearful of treading into the kitchen to have a stab at baking!

You will need these ingredients:

125g of butter

3/4 cup caster sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla essence (the real stuff, not the imitation junk)

2 mashed bananas (preferably over-ripe. The blacker the better)

1.5 cups…

Ha, no worries. I read an article the day or so later about getting faster, increasing average speed and it said track standing is one way to do it!

Nice track standing in the turn lane to Gorge Rd Saturday! You should teach that in a skills class,.. I've love to be able to do it.

HI Mate, Great event! I've tarted up the image to go with it and promod on the main page.

You might want to add a 2nd meeting point like Marden etc so others can jump aboard from there.

I went down it this morning... God it's steep, especially the lower sections. Needless to say your challenge is waaaaaaay above me. Perhaps next time!

Cheers
Angus
