Ironman Melbourne Wrap up

Posted on March 31, 2013 at 17:52 12 Comments

Just thought follow up on my Ironman Melbourne Nutrition post.

I'm happy to say my nutrition plan was one of the things that did go right on the day and ran like clockwork. Pre race carb load was fun as usual and race morning meal and nutrition to race start appeared adequate and I did not get hungry prior to race start, even with a delayed start due to bad weather (Pre race meal was bagel with peanut butter and honey, Endura Opti (strong mix), banana and powerade on drive down.…

Ironman Nutrition....One for the Gel fans

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 13:23 15 Comments

Well I have the Melbourne Ironman this week. For those not familiar with the distances that's a 3.8Km swim, 180km bike and 42km run.

Last night I began backing up my race day nutrition. I wanted to organise it into bags as they are utilised. It ended up being quite a bundle, predominantly Gels. Thought I'd throw something in the blog for those interested.

As mentioned there are 3 legs (swim, bike run). There is also nutrition that I take within 15mins of the start (not my pre…

Riding the Currumbin Valley, QLD

Posted on June 10, 2012 at 17:54 2 Comments

I had an opportunity to do some riding whilst on a recent stop over on the Gold Coast on my way up to Cairns for a Half Ironman.

I was a little concerned at being able to find somewhere good to ride whilst staying in Surfers Paradise as its a busy place and like everything, local knowledge is required to find the quality experiences.

I put the word out on a Triathlon forum and came up with a few suggestions to head out to the Currumbin Valley and Tomewin Mountain Rd so I…

Cairns Ironman 70.3 Experience

Posted on June 5, 2012 at 16:25 3 Comments

Well another Half Ironman (70.3) under my belt and I have to say what a cracker of a race!

The Cairns Ironman 70.3 is held in conjunction with the full Cairns Ironman event, turning the city into a bustling, energetic, festival with over 2000 people competing in the 2 events.

The race was held in the Sailfish Quay in Cairns (1.9Km swim), the bike leg on the closed Captain Cook Hwy that runs from Cairns to Pt Douglas and the run from Yorkys Knob to the city finishing on the busy…

Hi Darren,

You posted on AC re cycling Churchill and Main North Roads.

Does this mean that you sometimes cycle in Prospect, like Churchill, Prospect, Regency and/or Main North Roads? If so, you are eligible to join Prospect BUG. I would welcome more members and more eyes to report cycling hazards.

Cheers, Heather
