So a month or so ago I tried to ride the Veloway with Adelaide cyclists but pulled out when I couldn't get my bottom chain ring to engage. Today, five days after my first ride on a new bike I returned to the scene. of defeat. I rode there from Modbury so had already clocked up nearly 30 km. Some weeks ago I reported that Kathmandu were opening a large store in Modbury on Nth East road. A few days later I noticed that it was open but also noticed that something was lacking. Despite the glossy brochure and the huge poster on the front of the business promoting cycling accesories and clothing there were no facilities for cyclists to secure their bikes to whilst spending money in the shop. So I went on a tour of bicycle shops today with a view to check out flat bar road bikes. Having already spent some time looking on the internet I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, all be it subject to funds. So I went to the first shop. "I'm looking for a high end flat bar road bike" Yea well we got one here "sniff" and another over there but not much really, "sniff" we might get some more when the 2011 models come out in a few weeks "sniff".

I find it quite remarkable that so many on this group dismiss bells on bicycles. There may be occaisions when it is too dangerous to move your hand to ring the bell but perhaps the bell should be fitted in a place closer to your hand or perhaps you are not riding in a safe manner. We complain about motorists breaking the law who in turn justify their actions and decry all cyclists but cyclists seem to think it's perfectly understandable to break the law and disregard simple courtesies.
