That is catch 22 logic ! The driving culture is a result of deterring people from bike usage.
If more people ride they build more bike infrastructure.

Riding a bike is simply not that dangerous and the benefit of wearing a helmet is insignificant in serious accidents. There are fewer than 5 deaths per 100 million km travelled by bicycle users in australia.

Photo 1, eastern side, looking south, the ‘before’. The wheel of a bus impinges on the edge of the wide bicycle lane (to be removed soon).
On the footpath verge is a black step-thru MTB by Trek. If you very closely, you can just see the edge of a plastic mini basket (yellow with silver reflective tape around the top edge), a plastic basket (with handle, colour grey with silver reflective tape around the top edge) and a yellow vinyl bag. I do my best to be visible to drivers.Cheers, heather
