It's time to ride again my fine cycling friends! This time, let's do the Bay to Birdwood run. Meet Buffalo Carpark Glenelg, (you know the one, where Cobwebs meet), and hook on up to Birdwood. Ride distance from Bay to Birdwood is only 60km, so a n…

Standoffish greetings from the Big Smoke, Stuart :-) There are certainly roadies living in the hills, but they're scattered. You could put up notices on community boards in nearby towns asking them to contact you, or look at joining hills rides fro…

Too right - it's the verts that are the problem. I would use part of the existing cassette, except that I'm taking all the XT gear off this bike to upgrade another bike, so I want that cassette intact. As for grind the nuts - I like the ingenuity.…

Hello crew! I'm looking for some bits for an on-the-cheap single-speed conversion. I need: Cassette spacers. Thick, thin, still in the cassette...doesn't matter. I'd be happy to take old cassettes and break them down. I need a bunch of them. Prefe…

Thursday 6.15 pm from Henley Beach

Thursday, 6.15 pm: 30 kilometres from Henley Beach Square (near the jetty). Two rides leave from there. One is a bit slower and cruisier (sub 30 kph, I think - I've never been on this ride) while the other is faster (it has varied when I've been there from a 32 kph average to a 35 kph average). Last time had a few old Trojans (one on a track bike) that kept the pace fairly high. Nice little sprint finish back toward Henley Square. With a tail wind behind you, you can shoot along the foreshore te… Continue

Training Rides in Adelaide

Cyclists can be a cliquey bunch - joining a group ride can be more intimidating than a your first mountain climb, your first criterium or your first date.

In common with all of these life changing events is the need for confidence and communication.

Here, I'd like to list a number of training rides with information about location, time, pace and attitude. As opposed to your usual ride guide, I'd like to make this something of a series of reviews. Please feel free to add your own reviews in com… Continue

We need to talk.

There's no easy way for me to say this. But you need to shut the hell up when I'm riding up a hill in pain.

Smoochies xx

Hi,

It is a funny thing that when I set up the site, just after the TDU, I thought the roadies would really be in it. I started a few sub-groups to kick things off but the Road Riders (and even the MTB riders) are not that busy. The popularity of this site has been in the advocacy, long haul, cargo and urban riding.

I ride roadies and do the hills and will be riding in the TDU. Beefing up the road element if you are into it would be great. You could do it as a regular blog (do you read cyclingtipsblog.com) You could also start your own 'group' calling it training etc so you can catch the TDU and Amy's ride people as well as the triathalon riders (there are a few).

Maybe the best thing might be to do a forum or blog post (there is not real difference except blogs are more editable later) talking about your interest and that you are thinking of a group and what it would cover and go from there. You can show maps and pictures etc in a group. Once a group is set up if someone posts into it it automatically sends and email to all group members so they stay connected.

Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for your interest. We are planning a meet up very soon - hopefully in the next few weeks.

Cheers
Angus

I/we hope you get something from the site and you can contribute with some posts or by adding some pictures or videos (you can add interesting YouTube clips easily). You can join, or create your own, subgroups. Actually, surprisingly, we haven't had a lot of activity in the road riders groups so some action in there would be great.

Thanks for answering the sign up questions. The beer one is simply about filtering out the non-Adelaide people (spammers).

Welcome again!

Cheers
Angus

PS love the picture!
