Chuck it out and get a new bike, saves washing it.

Can't believe you'd say that about a Focus Gus... lol

is it derailleur or hanger failure ? made to walk again :(

derailleur fail.  hanger still straight.  Discovered the 2012 Chorus derailleur has an alloy fixing bolt! Will be retrofitting a steel one to it, when I get the parts....  need to fix it to race this weekend! Eeek!

So the bolt fails to protect the hangar?

What creative design.

I can understand why some people say disc brakes are good in mud.

The hangers that are replaceable are there to protect the frame, not the derailleur.  Any hanger that breaks before the derailleur would be horrible and flimsy and not provide very nice shifting! Rear mech probably failed as I had had a huge crash about 50km before.  And by 'huge' I mean the excursion off a path and me tumbling down a hill is captured on strava ;-)
