Comment by Adam Williss on February 6, 2013 at 12:16 Thanks for the thoughts Mikael & Rob.
Firstly - Mt Osmond will definitely be included in 2013. Every now and again I play with the route, and I reckon it will have improved massively over last year. Start and finish at Red Berry, Mt Osmond & Heatherbank in, Horsnells Gully & Woods Hill out. Similar distance and overall climbing to last year, but it is just a whole lot more cohesive (and challenging) as a route.
I've been thinking about how to include Nicols rd and it is just that bit far out of the way. I'll have another look at it. It might just mean leaving off Corkscrew and Tays Rd to keep it compact. Tays Rd no big deal, but it would be a shame to miss Corkscrew - particularly if some interstaters attend.
I'll confirm a 'draft' route over the next few weeks and put it up here and invite feedback.
I'm gonna have to come up with another way of getting RSVPs for absolute numbers before the event as well. More than one third of participants last year never confirmed their attendance, so that left me pissing into the wind on numerous occasions trying to control things! This may impact on the provision of maps, different abilities based groups, etc.
Comment by Rob Wood on February 6, 2013 at 12:08 Mt Osmond sounds good. Coach house is such an epic way to finish off the climbing, it would be a shame if one group didn't get to finish on it.
Yeah Mt Osmond sounds good (via gill?). With the revised course swinging close by Basket range and Nicols rd (both ways could count as 1?) would also ad some bite for minimal horizontal distance.
Was thinking about this the other day Adam, perhaps we could have two groups starting at opposite points of the course (think track pursuit). Only downside with that is the group starting at the opposite point to red berry would then need to ride back to the finish.
Perhaps another option given we're doing a loop style course is head off in opposite directions (1 group start on hill 1, the other start on hill 13) that way we'd both end up at the same point.
If the 2013 course isn't in concrete yet I'd throw out a suggestion of tackling Mt Osmond in there (may as well do both sides while we're there) instead of perhaps a couple of the Norton's based climbs?
Comment by Rob Wood on February 1, 2013 at 10:41 I just started planning how I could get over there then realised thats the day of my GF's bday, that would be a dangerous move! Maybe the Hobart DD!
Maps could work fine to deal with larger numbers Adam. There might still be logistical issues with return roads such as Fenhurst and corkscrew (with riders going down while others are going up) but this shouldn't be an issue if everyone is riding safely.
If numbers do increase significantly perhaps just split into a couple of groups, faster group leaves 10 mins or so before the slower. Riders can then regather within their own pace groups but they likely wont cross paths.

Anyone heading over for it? I was gonna go, but my free accomodation has fallen over...
Interesting concept of maps being proviced and riders spread out to avoid the congestion of one big group. Any thoughts on this for the Adelaide Dirty Dozen this year?

Also, for anyone interested, the Melbourne Dirty Dozen looks like being held on 17 Feb 2013. I'll be trying my hardest to head over for it... Here is the facebook link:

Comment by Adam Williss on September 7, 2012 at 10:24 FINALISING LEGENDS
I still have a number of participants listed as starting this event, but I cannot confirm that they have finished it. Please can you all go through the list of names and see whether you know any of these people and can identify whether any of these people either finished it or didn't.
Refer to this list - http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/adelaide-dirty-dozen/forum/to...
I want to finalise this list by Monday. Any whom I have not had confirmation from will end up missing from the inaugural Legends list if I don't hear anything. Sorry - but I don't want to hold off any longer than that.
So far I have 37 confirmed finishers, which seems pretty close judging by the numbers at the top of the final climb.
Thanks!
