This group is not to tell you how or what to do on your stationary trainer, but more of a place to discuss and share what other people do or use.

I always say I am going to be as fit or fitter coming out of winter as I was going in, but it never happens! So by setting this group up hopefully it motivates myself (and anybody else) to achieve that goal.
I hope to grow the content on this groupsite to include training programs, videos, events, and obviously discussions about trainers and training.
Riding on stationary trainers is painful, but with a bit of variety, and being able to target specific areas like time-trialling, hill-climbing, sprinting, etc it might not reach the dizzy heights of fun, but it might border on enjoyable when you start seeing the benefits out on the road!
Latest Activity: Same old, same old links to previous discussions and the trainer programs (see Pages at right).

Does anyone know if you can download workouts to load onto the Garmin Edge 500? I used mine for the first time last week with one of the pre-loaded ones, of which there are a few, but I wondered if there are more?

My wind trainer sounds like a jumbo taking off when mashing in the big dog. To amplify my noise-induced hearing loss I plug myself into my MP3 player. That and the pounding in my head from my anerobic-threshold heartbeat normally drowns out the…Continue

Comment by Trent on August 15, 2012 at 13:45 i would be really interested if there are some good iphone apps out there or how to use my garmin more effectively on the trainer! i am really bored with it at the moment!
Comment by Gus K on August 15, 2012 at 13:34 I found a couple of iPhone options. I am about to try out one but here is another (but needs and ANT+ dongle.
Comment by Gus K on August 14, 2012 at 23:17 So I did buy the CycleOps Mag trainer and I like it. Really solid, easy to get the bike in and out and despite it having no external resistance adjuster it offers good resistance. The product spiel says it is meant to increase as you put more into it. I also got one of those front wheel blocks which despite it's simplicity does really make a difference - it keeps you level and stops excessive wobbling.
I've been enjoying my time on the trainer and getting some results which is always incentive to keep going. I've been using a smartphone app called GymBoss to chime intervals which is pretty simple but I want something more and I can't believe there is not an app that focuses on stationary bike training. There are heaps on training apps for when you're on the road and tracking, like Strava. There is even one by CycleOps but doesn't do on the trainer which is really crazy!
The other option is the Garmin (but I don't always have it with me or I don't have the Ant add ons for cadence and speed). You can program it off line on your computer and upload the workouts to it.
So any ideas on where to find Garmin compatible workouts and is there an iPhone app for that? I will get to work converting Adam's supplied ones on this group to Garmin sometime.
Comment by Gus K on June 6, 2012 at 10:17 There are a few specials on at the moment on stationary trainers and looking at this I am thinking about the CycleOps Mag Turbo but the Jet Black (Pro)is similar to the one I used to borrow - Allah knows I need it. Any recommendations?
I used to have one with a remote resistance adjuster but to be honest I never used it. I do see the CycleOps one has it available as an add on.
Comment by Pete Roberts on May 10, 2012 at 23:28 I dusted off the cob webs from my rollers last week, and had my first half hour spin on them for the coming winter.

Comment by Gus K on July 17, 2011 at 12:16 Nice, video of the week. I'll have to watch it on the iPad when the tour is over.
No ride this morn so I replicated Norton Summit on the trainer smashing my PB for the dist, now need to do it in real life at 50-12 with at rpm of 60. I rode 2 mins seated then one min out of the saddle. Pretty good short snappy training session.
