Welcome

Welcome to the group page of the Southern Suburbs Road Cyclists.

A road cycling group based in the southern suburbs. Home of the L ride and P rides, a great place to start if you are new to group cycling and want to join in.

L and P rides are every fortnight on a Saturday morning (routes vary), training rides are every Wednesday night from Moana.

We cater for all standards from novice to racer, our routes start out with the L rides which are around 40km on flatish, quiet roads at a sedate pace, through the P rides where we go harder and faster and uphill to full on training sessions on Wednesday nights for those who want to improve their speed and fitness and for those who want to race.

Am I fast enough/fit enough to ride the L ride?

Most likely yes, we adjust the speed of the ride for the slowest person and have regular stops to regroup. If you can manage a couple of hours on your bike already you'll be fine.

We have a leader at the front who leads the way and a Tail End Charlie (TEC) at the rear to ensure no one gets left behind.

How is the P ride different to the L ride?

It's usually longer and tougher (includes hills) and we'll likely go a bit faster. Have a look at the routes below and you'll get the general idea. Most people who have done half a dozen or so L rides feel confident with having a go at a P ride.
