Interesting that GreenEDGE's new naming rights sponsor is a mining chemicals and explosives company.
It's fantastic for the team to have a 3 year sponsorship deal that will help cement the medium term future. Great stuff. But right now I wonder how strategic was the original choice for the team's name. I don't think I've seen any 'motherhood statements' or team ethos about representing any sort of ecological or sustainable approach to business, but none the less, using the word ''Green'' usually has that connotation.
For any company like Orica, there are obvious benefits to having their name linked, hyphened even, to a 'Green' or ecological sounding identity. Whether or not that eco focus is nothing more than imagined by the general public, it's all good for them.
Can someone can tell me a better reason for the choice of the GreenEDGE name? I suspect some very canny planning way back when the team name was first announced may have finally had it's payday.
