i was just thinking that seeing everyone is laying into the govt over transport at the moment, this would make a good smokescreen issue if they could grab it and run with it - make it look like theyre doing something.

would be good for tourism if people could hire a bike, catch a bus into the sticks, or the one that goes to cleland, then ride back

Up here, even in the smaller communities the city transit buses have a bike rack on the front and anyone can pop their bike on it and take the bus: http://bctransit.com/regions/vic/transitplus/bike_and_ride.cfm

One can only persist. I was at the BISA AGM in 2009 when Conlon vetoed racks on buses cos it would slow public transport, and he thought problems at the moment. Nothing about cyclist safety if bus with rack hit cyclist.

I spoke to my local member some time ago about this. Isobelle Redmond actually. She kindly went and talked to the hills transit about the issue. The manager agreed that if there were to be beaks on buses then they should start on the aldgate route.
It seems everytime this issue comes up there is a new excuse not to do it. It makes the bus too long or much harder if its in a collision etc. Sigh!
She advised me to contact the minister of transport. If every one on this group did that then maybe he'd think about it???

I have just returned from a quick trip to Canberra, and out of the corner of my eye I spotted a yellow rack on the front of a green bus - a very similar contraption to the lead photo for this group. I will try and find out more, but in short, if it's good enough for the national capital, it's probably good enough for us!
