Hi all,I finally joined the Garmin club, been playing with my brand new edge my last couple of rides. Everything is working great except for the heart rate monitor which is giving largely inaccurate readings.Initially I was just getting the occasional spike which I suspect is not an unusually anomaly, ie 200+ for short periods of time. I can deal with these as they are generally pretty short. (Im referring to reading anomaly, not heart anomaly)My last ride I was getting readings consistently in…Continue

Hi all, So my commute in today read only 13.9kms, normally 15.2kms.My commute home (different route) read 15.6kms, normally 17.2kms.Any ideas on how or why this might have happened? There is sometimes a little bit of change in distance, but never this much!CheersContinue

Just wondering if anyone has come up with this problem. My Edge 800 will no longer connect to my computer. It keeps coming up with 'this accessory is not recognised'I have replaced the drivers and have tested the connection with my old Edge 705 which works fine. I have even tried 9 different cables.I am really thinking I am going to have to send it off to get it repaired (or swapped which is their normal method)Continue

Hi Folks,I've just been mucking around with my Edge 500 after getting it back from repairs following a "borked" attempt to upgrade to Version 3.0 Firmware.I've just noticed that when turning the unit on initially, the speed reading fluctuates from 0km/hr to as much as 2km/hr. Have others noticed this phenomenon? Is it related to GPS tracking? I haven't noticed this before, as usually I don't turn my unit on until I have connected it to the bike, at which time it tends to detect the speed/cadence…Continue

Not sure how many of you know how to do this, but at times it may be useful to backup your Edge 500 to keep your data safe (not ride data but personal data, device settings etc) in case you may need to reset or replace your Edge 500, you can get the new one back to being like your old one easily. This is copied directly from Garmin Support....How can I back up my personal settings and profiles on my Edge 500?Certain circumstances may arise where you will want to save your settings, profiles, and…Continue

I have worked it out, I tried to copy the maps onto a bigger micro SD card but they copied across but wont run, I can only use the micro SD card provided.
Now I can try using a route, thanks eveyone
@ Paul, not sure if this will help
>click settings (spanner on bot right) >system>map>map information select page>select map use wish to use (probably have the choice of standard base map or topo aust & nz, >choose topo aust & nz, happy to meet up and walk you thru' the 800 if you require, cheers
Thanks, I will give it a try using some of the maps others have set up for rides first, but I am having a bigger problem, I put the garmin maps on the micro SD card but they don't seem to come up? Any ideas?

Comment by CLP on May 29, 2013 at 16:42 paul mc .. if you download the tcx file from map my ride or whatever site.. save it to the "new files" folder on your device. When you turn on your Garmin, it should convert it to a route for you. From there you should be able to navigate through the menus to select and display that route.
Does that help? I don't have my garmin in front of me at the moment, so i can't tell you the exact menu items to use.. :)
Hi, does anyone have a Garmin 800 and could please talk me through how to use the maps and use a planned route from some of the map planning websites like map my ride?
I upgraded my unit care of the A-man won't be bothering with Garmin upgrades for a while. Mob of wa**ers.

Comment by Gus K on May 10, 2013 at 21:53 There is a new firmware update for Garmin 500 (3.2). Has anyone updated yet? It looks like just a small update of a couple of minor things.
It must be remembered that this is for the garmin 500 only, refer to this link for other models
