I've just been notified that Version 3 firmware is now available for the Edge 500 (updated from V2.8).
Anyone know what's in it? Feature release, bug fix?

Guess I'll hit Google and see what turns up.

Ahh, here we go, looks like afew changes for those running power meters, also 2 extra data pages (if 3 wasnt enough!)

Changes made from version 2.80 to 3.00:
Added two additional training pages.
Added various power-related data fields, including left and right balance for supported power meters, Normalized Power (NP), Intensity Factor (IF), Training Stress Score (TSS), maximum lap power, last lap power, and Watts/kg power.
Improved support for power-based workouts.
Added the ability to modify the FTP value and to recalculate the power zones based on the new FTP value.
Made improvements to the power meter calibration process.
Fixed an issue where Auto Zero was incorrectly displayed as an option when paired to the PowerTap hub.
Improved the calculation of elevation gain/loss.
Improved the calculation of time behind on the Virtual Partner page.
Fixed various issues with viewing activities in history.
Fixed various issues related to courses.
Fixed various other issues.
Updated translations.

thanks for letting us know Tim. :)

No worries, I updated mine this morning using the Garmin web updater tool, all went ok.

Been out for a ride, no issues to report so far.

The only difference I see is the 2 extra data pages and a heap more options for power measurement, also a lot for "Balance" which I assume is also a L + R pedal relationship/ power measurement. Presumably this is why the extra data pages were added.

Sorry to sound so naive, but how do you install the update?

if you are in Garmin Connect dashboard Adam a little message pops up about the update

Follow the links and it will download a web updater tool.

You can either go to the MyGarmin webpage and let it do it (assuming you have a user account) or you can download the web updater from this link and use it http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

From what i have heard the web updater is more reliable way of doing it

Just updated last night.

Now my Garmin doesn't automatically upload new activities!!  It just sits and searches in both Garmin Connect and Strava.

Had to manually load the last activity.

How do you set it to auto upload activities? Do you mean as soon as you open Garmin it uploads new rides?
I plug my Garmin into my PC, then open Garmin connect web page, then Click the Upload button at the top of screen. It gives me a list of activities stored in the Garmin with the ones not previously uploaded selected with a check box. Click go and all good.

yeah same method for me.

Hi Tim

Exactly as you describe.  However when I click go it just hangs at loading new activities.

Last night I just used explorer to look at the Garmin, transfered the .fit file to my PC and uploaded to Garmin Connect and Strava.

It was like GC and Strava couldnt read the Garmin.

Sorry - should mention Im using firefox - and this is the first issue Ive had.

Great, I've been wanting to monitor my left leg power output compared to my right!

Thanks for checking it out and being the test bunny.

I find Strava on Chrome does hang quite often for me anyway Matt.

Just tried to update the Firmware on my Edge 500 using Webupdater and think I'm completely ballsed it up somehow - it appears to have downloaded the update okay, but now when I go to turn the device on it comes up with an error message saying "Software Missing".

I've tried to reboot and have tried to download the Firmware update again, but it's not reading the device!

Does anyone have any suggestions or this going to be a warranty job???
