Comment by Adam Williss on May 13, 2013 at 12:42 Just popped up an event for it. Should be a challenge!
Comment by Torsten Bunge on May 12, 2013 at 19:11 lock it in Eddie - put the event up and they will come....
Comment by Sam Young on May 8, 2013 at 14:54 Looks like fun. Might be better/tougher to add Montacute or Corkscrew instead of Balhannah? Or to do it as well for the truly insane...
I recently did a 3x Lofty, Corkscrew+Marble Hill, Greenhill, and the Old Fwy. That was pretty tough.
Comment by Rob Wood on May 8, 2013 at 11:25 Yeah Im keen Adam, Long weekend may be an issue but put me down for a yes at this stage.
Comment by wujim on May 8, 2013 at 11:21 I'm always down for tough climbing rides, and I've wanted to do four passes at Lofty but haven't had enough time on a Sunday (I imagine it'd take me 5-6 hrs)... so this ride is especially interesting. If I'm in Adelaide for the weekend (being a long one) I will definitely be in.
Comment by Adam Williss on May 8, 2013 at 10:56 Not sure where else to put this, so this group seems like a bit of a relevant target audience...
Vic has the 'Hells 500' crew who do some insanely challenging rides...
Does SA have some sort of equivalent? If not, and there is sufficient interest, shall I set up a Group?
I've created a 5 X Lofty route with the approach being from 5 different ways and figure that the dead of winter (queens birthday?) might make for a really challenging ride. I've nicknamed it The Furore for a bit of fun.
I envisage this will be a bit of an 'at your own pace' challenge rather than a group ride. Any interest? I figure it will take the best part of 8 hours...with a lunch stop at Balhannah.
Melbourne DD13 report here: http://theclimbingcyclist.com/dd13-the-2013-melbourne-dirty-dozen/
They had 290 riders RSVP, more than 200 start and more than 100 finish. They didn't all start at one though.
Comment by Adam Williss on February 6, 2013 at 12:36 Just pissed around with Rob's suggestion of Nicols....
I've cut Tays Rd out, but kept Corkscrew (so using Montecute descent as the return route to Coachouse/Woodlands - includes a drink/toilet stop that way too). I've included Nicols up and back as the "one" hill. Thats kind of devious, but fits in with the event I reckon.
And now, the route is looking really nasty! According to Ride with GPS (so take readings with a grain of salt) route becomes 98km long and has over 3,500m vertical. Distance is fine, but that climbing, if accurate, will be brutal...!
I'll put the route up for comment. May as well do it shortly... Why not. Nothing much else happening! I'll pop it up for discussion in the main forum so it isn't missed by anyone.
I'll look into the Hobart 10000 process. I've got $0 budget, so I'll have to be tight re: stickers, etc!
Comment by Rob Wood on February 6, 2013 at 12:32 Hobart 10000 had a registration and liability waiver (you probably never know how well these documents hold up when tested) but I dont think that would really stop people just turning up. It just allows you to collect a little more info such as emergency contact etc . If you have a list of names that can be ticked off in the morning in exchange for a sticker then you can identify the rogue riders and they may not receive the same perks (ie group support, SAG wagon etc). Perhaps a little harsh but it might work?
No sweat re Nicols. I agree corkscrew is important.
