I'm a candidate for the Parks ward in the Port Adelaide Enfield Council and am a big believer in keeping active and enjoying the great outdoors. Our council area is continually upgrading to make roads and tracks more cyclist friendly. I support this growth and hope for bigger plans, in the future, linking the esplanades together and creating safer environments for cyclists, on our roads.
I hope if you're elected you'll support Port Adelaide Enfield Council repairing the Hanson Reserve Velodrome so the local cycling clubs can return to racing and training there. It's a shame that it has been left to fall into such a state due to a straight out council-balls-up!
That's a fair comment, Sam. I have read the strategy. My comment is referring to the fact that I do support the upgrade of the velodrome and if elected into council I will look into ways we can support it. I have not done any detailed research as yet, as I am restricted until members have been elected. Thank you for your comment. I do appreciate concerned community members ensuring council members don't just provide lip service!
I have inquired regarding the velodrome and as to whether it is state or council's responsibility. The state say that it was handed back to the council therefore I will add this to my list of needs to address at an upcoming council meeting.
I will keep you posted on the progress.
Claire, I am happy to give you a full briefing from the sport's perspective whenever you're ready!
Regards Gemma Kernich (President, Cycling SA - and Port Adelaide CC Club Rider)
I second this. Outdoor velodromes are rare and historic and every possible thing should be done to return them to their original state and use (that is a proper surface for cycling).
