We meet at the Tower Hotel on Magill Rd (near the bottom of Norton Summit) and roll off by 5:50am.
Rides often head towards Forest Range chasing the sunrise via Norton Summit every Friday morning.
Location: Magill, Norton Summit, Ashton, Basket Range, Forest Range, Uraidla, Summertown

Latest Activity: on Thursday
Starting from the Tower Hotel at 05.50 am we ride up Norton Summit and onto a predetermined route. Historically the par course was through Ashton then towards the sunrise and Forest Range along the Lobethal Road before returning via Deviation Road through Carey Gully to Uraidla and Summertown.
Other routes have been do ascend or descend Pound Rd, Corkscrew via Gorge Rd or Greenhill Rd ascent.
The ride will take place each week all year round. Regardless* of the weather there will be at least 1 person riding every Friday. Numbers vary from 1 - 5 riders, and the pace is moderate (i.e. will suit riders who can ascend Norton in 18-23 minutes). When the sunrise is particularly spectacular, time will be set aside for a group hug, so the more riders, the bigger the hug!
We regroup at the top of the major ascents, and the return to the city can be via Norton Summit, Greenhill Rd or Mt Lofty.
Decent lights and sense of humour essential!
* Disclaimer - if it is raining before the due start time, it might be a no-goer. But if you are feeling particularly Belgian, turn up, you won't regret just not going!

There is a blogger called Cycling Maven (some might say poor man's Cycling Tips) but his post is nice and quite relevant.Luckily for us in Adelaide we don't have the situation highlighted below. …Continue

Comment by Gus K on March 22, 2013 at 13:09 The interesting thing that view shows is that Damien Howson holds his own against de Gendt but loses speed around the middle but, as he is know to do, pick up speed when the gradient flattens out.
@Gus, that raceshape thing is pretty cool. Especially when you just have our group in it.
Comment by Tim B on March 22, 2013 at 12:57 de Gendt snatched a heap of KOM's when the TdU rolled through town. Reckon Strava should have a tick box for Pro's so the mere mortals still have a chance
Comment by Gus K on March 22, 2013 at 12:55 But you're not on the Raceshape for CS yet! Thomas de Gendt is though

Comment by Michael Fraser on March 22, 2013 at 12:55 Thanks for the ride JV, ET and NS. @ET I was being cautious just in case you put on a burst of speed and left me in the dark with the killer roos. I also had to stop going down Greenhill Road to put on my rain jacket. It also made me slow down about 15 km/h on the descent due to slippery road.
Thanks boys for the company this morning. It was good to be back with the CFFRS posse, but we were denied a sunrise due to low cloud, maybe next time?
I was so slow going up Corkscrew, I think my Garmin might have thought I had stopped? Got to the top before Easter or Christmas JV!! Michael half-wheeled me all the way to Marble Hill, he probably thought he was encouraging me to speed up, but I wanted to keep my powder dry for Pound Rd, Lil Italy and Range Rd. I felt good after Corkscrew - Strava will probably tell a different story!
... and I had my Belgian Bootees on for a reason - it started raining on me at Uraidla!
Group of four headed off this morning. Nigel, Michael, myself and an original CFFRS'er ET made an appearance. For something different we decided to head up the Gorge for a morning corkscrew. The wind had gone, the road was dry and the cool air made for good climbing. Personally I didn't feel too bad going up as I used Michael as my rabbit to try and catch and maybe regret being dropped in the first place. Nigel used me as a rabbit smashing his PR.
Nigel and I head home down Monty for an earlier than expected finish, I should have continued on, but oh well. Michael and ET continued up the hill with Michael heading down Greenhill and ET being the hard man and felt he needed a couple more mountains to climb.
Due to Easter next week I will see youll in a fortnight.
