Adelaide Cyclists

Hi All

The items below were originally posted as a comment to the "4 Sale or Swap" group - posting here as a discussion as all of it except of the very last frame is still for sale!!

##Original Post##

I am finally getting around to clearing out my shed of bikes that I have had in storage for the Bikes for Refugees program.

All proceeds from the sale of these bikes will go directly to BFR allowing us to continue to restore, refurbish and recycle bicycles back into the community.

All bikes come “as is” with no warranty from BFR – they all need a good
clean, lube up and adjust – some need more work than others – but I
thought that this might be a good selection to try and sell as they are
all a little different in their own way!

All prices are suggestions only – make me an offer- even pay more if you think you should ;-)

First up – large frame 63cm (feels big to me) 27 x 1 ¼ wheels, old
Ricardo men’s 10 speed in white. Pretty basic bike from its day, and
nothing really special here. Would probably make a good pub bike that
can be locked anywhere without fear of it being stolen. I would have
kept it for myself except that I have way too many bikes right now and
am trying to rationalise. $80 for this bike.

Next is a really nice Raleigh Medale 12– with steel 27 x 1 ¼ wheels.
Nicely detailed frame (57cm) in a really nice blue, paint in good
condition. Could be turned into all manner of things. $150

Next up is one of my favorites an Atom Ultralight, a bike that I wish
WAS bigger as I would keep it for myself- but I can’t delude myself - a
57 cm frame just wont fit me!

The paint needs a polish and the bike needs an overhaul, but it has a
full Shimano 600 groupset (with colour co-ordinated toe straps on the
pedals!). Japanese made lugged steel frame with 700c wheels. For its
day this would have been an expensive bike. $250.

Another bike that I particularly like is the Univega Viva Touring from
the mid 80’s. Classic American touring bike with mostly Suntour parts
and a Japanese made steel frame (size 53 cm). I reckon that this would
be a great bombproof touring bike. Needs a restoration and a good
clean-up. Alloy 27 x 1 ¼ quick release wheels, alloy parts, canti
brakes, rack etc.. $250

Next – make me an offer these other bikes and frame

Roadking ladies 10 speed frame size 47 cm
Needs some work – been out in the weather. Mudguards and handlebars
have lost their chrome due to rust. Would need new brake cables etc.
Again, could be a good pub bike, rust may come back into fashion!

Standish mens 10 speed fame 52 cm
Weathered condition – no space in shed – check the chain in the photo
and you will see what I mean. Could be salvageable for the frame most
likely or rebuilt with second-hand parts.

Elizabeth Star frame 55 cm.

My friend James donated this to BFR to be made into a new bike from
parts and I never got round to it. Great frame with iconic decals.
Worth a restoration or fixie treatment. I like this frame and would
want to see it go to a good home- make an offer!

If you are interested in any of these, or know anyone who might be, give us a call on 0438 837 372

Cheers

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I'm currently a student in University of Adelaide, doing my final year project this year.
I'm particularly looking for a 700c/27inch wheels sleek tires bicycle for my project which will require dismantling of gears and drilling in the frame of the bicycle.
I'm looking for a bicycle which cost not more than $50 AUD.
If there are any bicycles which matches the information above, please kindly let me know,

Regards,
Jason

You could try the auction houses around Adelaide, they often have bicycles which sell cheap, most often from deceased estates or ploice lost property clearances. Auction Blue is one such organisation and they have an auction this Saturday
