Ride Summary:
A new record was set today for a Gawler Wheelers ride….57 riders…..our best turn-out ever!! They came from far and wide….Queensland….North Haven etc.
There were so many newbies….Michelle, Katie, Cindy, Sue, Kathryn, Jo, Kate, Rachel, David, Lee, Rhys and Paul (sorry if I missed anyone). Welcome to you all…please tell us about your first GW experience.
On a perfect morning we had quite a few who participated in their first ever group ride and this was the perfect route for it! Once we hit the SOB the riders formed into different groups according to experience and speed preference. The fast riders averaged 33kph for the ride and the majority averaged 28kph.
We had a couple of other “firsts” today as well. Randall came along on his new Trike and he had a blast averaging 24.3kph for the 60km ride…amazing!! Then Pete and Kate rode on their Tandem….and did they hum along….averaging 24.8kph for the ride (see photos below).
Scott became the Gawler Wheelers 100th member last week and he was presented with a GW wind vest before the ride. By the way…he rode 60kms with us and then went to the city to race…..what a warrior!
You can imagine that with 57 riders it was just one big buzz back at Jaspers post ride. The atmosphere was electric and everyone talked about what a great ride it was! Another AWESOME Gawler Wheelers morning!
A very special thanks to Check Point and Tail End Charlies Ian and Mick who did a wonderful job guiding and looking out for the big group on today’s incident free ride.
NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two concurrent rides. One will be for hills riders on a brand new hills route. The other will be a fantastic flat ride. Details will be posted on AC Events tomorrow. YOU are more than welcome to attend either ride. Come and join in the fun! Today's ride photo gallery follows:

The flat ride is similar to the one we rode yesterday re difficulty/distance. The hills ride is a brand new route (submitted by Nick) and it looks like a beauty (that's if you like hills of course!). So take you pick and come along! Cheers.

Permalink Reply by Barry Norsworthy on October 24, 2011 at 14:45 Really enjoy all GW rides, but for some reason I cannot put my finger on, Saturday was particularly enjoyable- the ride to Gawler with Mick , the warm day, the chats along the way and back at Jaspers, Dave giving me his wheel for half the ride ( good luck Dave with your CFS test this week ! ), Richard and I sharing a wheel on the return journey ?. Whatever, it made a great start to the day and weekend.
Permalink Reply by Keith Davies on October 24, 2011 at 17:56 I'm with you Barry, I think for me it was having my lad Rhys with us for his first group ride, also his previous longest was around 20k's. Plus its being with a bunch of good natured people who all seem to get on well, wether its on the wheel or back at Jaspers. Dave add my best wishes to Barry's.
Permalink Reply by David Hughes on October 26, 2011 at 20:41 Thanks Keith and Barry for the wishes for my firey friday. It was a great ride again. Rhys is a natural. Cant decide which ride this week will see how I feel on the day. GW is a great bunch that always helps each other along. I can believe that Frank has his own wine label! I went past the bike racing in the city last Saturday afternoon it looked very good, well worth watching not sure about riding.
Permalink Reply by Andrew M on October 24, 2011 at 16:33 was really disappointed to miss this one with the flu. will be there on Sat if I'm better!
Permalink Reply by Andrew Jacks on October 24, 2011 at 21:59 I'm still recovering. Everyone is improving and that is a sign of a good group. Looking forward to Saturdays ride
