would you ride in a pair of culottes? some flannel slacks? or a bemberg frock perhaps?...

...not my cup of tea, but it might be yours :) particularly if you lived in 1936...in light of some exhibitions occurring around adelaide centred on bike art and fashion - not to mention things heating up for TDU, the goodly archivists of State Records of South Australia (and I should declare, my colleagues) went digging in their ample collection for bicycle related records...

The first of which you will find on their Flickr account - an advertisement for Foys bicycle products and fashion from 1936 in the Centenary Cycling Derby magazine:

The flannel slacks colours include wine and bottle.  Even in 1936, the bike comes complete with accessories!

...Foy and Gibson was before my time but they did change into Cox Foy's which I'm sure a lot of people will remember.

I would wear that. I've never worn Lycra on a bike ride before.... Plus I have a 70s bike that would go with the outfit well.

There is a group in Auckland called "Rocks on Bikes" they promote the use of everyday cloths to cycle in. Not a lot on the net about them but some pictures on Flickr.
