to all those who visit the bay,and jump the moseley st/jetty rd stop sign-may I ask that you actually stop .had a close call this morning walking my dog down for a swim-the offending cyclist nearly incurred karma when his rear wheel fell into the tram tracks around the corner, luckily he unclipped and stayed on.so what does stop mean to you?,cya ,pedro

Sounds like in your case they didn't even give way.
Cyclist versus tram or even a car?
Do you have to be Nostradamus to be able to predict the outcome?

I don't stop only if theres no one around and I'm pretty conservative with that too - had too many bike accidents to risk it. I am constantly surprised though by the number of cyclists who jump red lights, go up footpaths, don't give way (because they seem to be doing a TdF time trial to move up the rankings on Strava).

If you want a good ranking just tape the Garmin to the roof of the car :P

Permalink Reply by Dstone on February 26, 2012 at 22:37 Out doing somne ks this morning and mate and I stopped at a red light on gorge road no cars around. lady behind us asked us what we are doing and why are we stopping. She then said "'cause in Melbourne cyclists dont stop at red lights". She was a visitor and mentioned it a few times about us stopping. No wonder Warnie gets flithy at cyclists in melbourne, perhaps he should move here so he can chill out.
Although she did ask if she could sit in, which was nice as there is nothing worse then some unwanted hemorroid wheel sucking without an invite IMHO of course.

Permalink Reply by Steven Ellison on February 27, 2012 at 9:24 I do not jump red lights, I will wait on the sensor, if it apears not to respond then I move over to the pedestrian button and use that! Although I find it anoying when there is no traffic at all, it would be much more so if a cop pulls you over for it as its not going to be cheap! Its a law, and laws should be observed regardless to our beliefs that they are sometimes stupid. Not unlike the road work signs with low speed limits on weekends and after hours when there are no workers, they have been left out acidentally, I obide by them when in the car too much to the objection of others! Its law!
Most riders are also licensed drivers, without people obiding by the law the roads would be caos and how often do riders complain when drivers infringe on cyclists by not abiding to laws, is that double standards and hypocrytial ? Wake up and smell the roses. DO THE RIGHT THING, AS SPECIFIED BY LAW!
What is the sensor going to pick up?
I would have to put my face on it so my fillings could trigger them, Oh, almost forgot, they are no longer metal either!
Most lights are triggered via inductive loops where a large metal object eg a car is parked on top of wire loops and changes the inductance and thus triggering the light change!
Permalink Reply by Steven Ellison on February 27, 2012 at 12:19 Hey, I know it works on my Ali frame have no idea if CF frames are picked up ;-) I'm not that rich to find out Frank ;-) I don't even know if they are looking for a magnetically inductive material or sense in other ways *shrug*
