Ride Summary
This week we are giving away a copy of the book “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BIKE” by Robert Penn. All AC members can enter. All you need to do is post on this ride report a “Why did the chicken cross the road?” joke. Every joke goes into the barrel and the winning entry will be drawn at the GW Ride Brief next Saturday. Closes Friday night at 6.00 pm. The book will be posted to the lucky winner.
Prior to the ride we were joined by AC member Don Nairn who dropped by to say hi to the GWs. Great to meet you Don! We also welcomed newbie Jonah…(rode brilliantly!). 32 riders set off this morning on the 24km leg to Two Wells. A gusty cross-wind did not slow the group down and we arrived at Two Wells in record time. (Who was the male rider who went into the female toilets there??)
Not long after we started the Virginia leg we heard calls from the front group of riders of “Chicken Up”. Yes, we had to slow down for a chicken crossing the road!! Why did the chicken cross the road???
Following the regroup at Virginia we made quick time down Penfield Road to join the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway. That’s where the fun really started. The SOB bikeway had been swept during the week so the super smooth surface was clean as a whistle. That, coupled with a terrific tailwind, meant that we slammed the last 20km with all riders averaging 30-40kph on the leg home. Our Tail End Charlie (Mick) said this morning that we had to be back by 10.30 as he had a wedding to go to. We have to keep our TECs happy, so in great riding conditions we did just that and arrived back home by 10.00!
Back at Jaspers Café we were pleasantly surprised to see Reidy and Matthew waiting for us, fresh from their Ride4Repat experience. While we were sipping on our coffee they gave the group a fantastic insight into their recent epic ride. Thanks for joining us this morning guys and well done on your achievement!
NEXT WEEK: For all those who are not going away we will be holding one group ride on EASTER SATURDAY through the beautiful Barossa Valley. YOU are welcome to join us. Check AC “Events” for the details. Today’s photo gallery follows:

Why did the chicken cross the road?
Bill Clinton: "I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What's your definition of crossing".
Einstein: "Did the chicken really cross the road or did the road move beneath the chicken?"

Permalink Reply by David Hughes on April 2, 2012 at 21:11 Sounds like another great ride and report well done to all, you get faster each week. Good that Reidy and Matthew are back, great effort, passed the repat works early Sat morning.
I was dressed ready to ride and just about to leave for Jaspers when I was called up to work for a few days at deep creek and sleep under the stars. Highlight of my weekend was when my team and I were turned into white foam snow men on Sunday by a water bomber that thought we were too hot, then we were cross, but thats next weekend.
Hope to get on my bike soon. Photos make me feel part of the ride however thanks Frank.
We all know that the chicken went across the road to get its bike, (purchased from star cycles) because Gawler Wheelers said "on your bike......"!
Found this with Frank's chicken photo and bit of a Simpsons fan, Why did Monty Burns pet chicken cross the road
It thought it was an eggs-elent idea!
Permalink Reply by Frank (GW) on April 3, 2012 at 6:38 I have received a couple of queries re whether Jaspers will be open on Saturday. Will find out tomorow. Regardless we will still start the ride from Jaspers as per usual. If they are not open we will have coffee after the ride at the Sunrise Bakery next to the Service Station. We went there last year......yummy yummy hot-cross buns and other Easter goodies!
I am sure they will be open on Saturday....the Public Holiday is Good Friday.
Permalink Reply by Keith Davies on April 3, 2012 at 8:58 Enjoyed Saturdays ride, was going to take it easy prior to GS2 on Sunday but once we got going found I was doing my regular thing trying to keep with the No 2 group. A good quick ride with a few people surprising themselves with ave times. I forgot to start the timer on my computer until close to Two Wells but did ave 31.8 from there back to Gawler.
Great to see and hear from Mathew & Reidy after their fantastic effort on ride 4 repat a great ride for a great cause kudo's to all the riders and support crew.
GS2 Sunday started cold but turned into a beaut day, started in a group with Craig, Pete, Michael & Peter managed to stay with these flyers to Birdwood then got dropped (as expected) on the first hill. The rest of this first loop was a good ride, hopped on a fast train for almost the full length of Forreston Rd back to Gumeracha then got dropped again on the long climb heading to Loberthal. Second loop was a lot harder with the climbing (& Saturdays ride taking its toll) 92.5 k's for the day first loop ave 29kph overall 26 kph no where near the stronger GW riders but personally happy with a 150 K weekend.
As for chooks, will leave the comedy to the experts.

Permalink Reply by Dale (rouleur) Riggs on April 4, 2012 at 14:03 Why did the chicken cross the road?
It wanted to be first back to Jaspers!
or
It wanted to prove that the chicken really did come first.
or
It was running from the Red Rooster.
Permalink Reply by Peter Bond on April 4, 2012 at 21:32 i really did enjoy the ride, even the headwind on the way out to TW, pretty fast even in the 'not fast' group.
PB got his PB even with a visit from the puncture fairy which meant i got back to Jaspers last - even behind Mick!!
Why did the chicken cross the road? because she wanted fly to Gawler with the Wheelers!!
@Frank - another great write up of a great ride. Top job with the photos and words, we really appreciate your efforts.
Peter
OK, better word my joke properly if I want to go into the draw - "Why did the chicken cross the road?" - It just wanted to come out to play. - 'With who?' - With Frank! - "Play what?" - Play chicken of course - with his camera! Don't all the chicks want to play with Frank?
