From the SBS Cycling Central website - "Australian WorldTour squad GreenEDGE has released a statement to the media explaining that it intends to announce a title sponsor for the team on Tuesday, May 1 in Melbourne".

I always wondered if Australia was going to have a WorldTour team, who would be the main sponsor - QANTAS, BHP, WESTPAC? and I guess my question will be answered on Tuesday. I was thinking that the company should have a presence in Europe, or going to have one.

Who do you think would be an appropriate Australian sponsor - Barbecues Galore, XXXX, Vegemite, Mortein? Or are they not going to be Australian??

Do their corporate colours have to be GREEN???

Cycling Express are today at $59.95 for SS replica jersey.

If Green Edge keep changing their wardrobe at the current rate then they won't be able to give replica jerseys away. There must be a woman in their ranks somewhere ;-)

GREEN is not something that most people would describe Orica as. The old ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) they have an unenviable environmental record - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orica.

Maybe the team will be renamed as The Green Edge of a Murky Blacky Brown smelly toxic swamp?

I hope the team can grow in a clearly corrosive environment?

EEeeeeks!

I wonder how many innocent lives they have taken with their toxic spills and messups?  (Not only human)

At least Orica is an Australian Company. If we want to 'dig dirt' on the Company's environmental activities , I am sure we could find fault with just about any Company which uses Iron Ore, paper products, Petroleum etc, etc.  Rather than knock the Company we should all be over the moon that we have an Australian Team racing (currently 6th in the Worlds UCI rankings.) in the Giro and TdF.  Never thought I would see that happen.  Great to see.

Exactly my sentiment. I'm sure other Pro team sponsors don't have great records in environmental mangement or any other issue you want to jump on. Just be happy we are there.

Good idea... just sweep it under the carpet...

those creatures don't matter anyway...

I reckon the Orica marketing chaps will be popping the corks on a few bottles of champers tonight...fancy getting naming rights on a cycling team with the word "Green" in the name, a snazzy green jersey and a symbol on the jersey that looks suspiciously like an environmentally friendly recycling arrow?  I just hope the riders get a pay rise for all those subliminal messages they are now carting around.  Orica couldn't have planned it better....

GE just lost a whole lot of appeal to me.....

Greenedge now sponsored by Orica!!!!!

totale éclate !!!

so there will be another two versions of the team kit, a makeshift version then the full version

There was a discussion on Ch 10's The project last night, seems environmental concerns are pretty low on most people list of priorities these days.

My guess is with the breaking of the drought and the realisation that green measures cost us money via the carbon tax and the mining tax that we are all back to burying our heads in the sand,
