Adelaide Cyclists

Hi, came across the forum when looking for local cycling info, finding the forum to be a rich source of information and entertainment! Anyway, just wondering if anyone can help me out here, I've been using Progold lube on my chain for a while and would love to know if anyone's buying it locally and if so where?

Cheers,
Jon

I agree with regular cleaning but I'd be quite disappointed if I only got 5000km out of a Dura Ace chain and sprockets. 10,000km would be more acceptable to me for all weather road use and I've heard some people say 20,000km is possible.

Lubricant that does not attract and retain road grit is the go along with a regular washing of the chain and cleaning of the cluster and chainrings. While you're in there take the jockey wheels out of the rear derailleur and clean out and lubricate the bearings. You'll be amazed at difference if this is not something you do regularly.

Hi Jon,
I got mine from Mega Bike a few months ago.

Great thanks Luke, sounds promising...and thanks for the other advice I'll take it on board (read: ignore and check out Mega Bike!)

I reckon that Lifecycles in Kensington stock what you're after, bro. Plus they're great guys to deal with.

Also Peter at Biomechanix (?spelling) in Wright St probably has esoteric stuff like that. What's 'dyou-race' BTW - something you lycra riders take with your coffee for speed?

Bicycle Express stock it also.
it's lovely, lovely slippery stuff that Prolink Gold!

Luke - you can get a lot more than 5000km out of sprockets, but you won't necessarily get that out of a chain (depending on conditions). Replace the chain before 0.75% elongation and your sprockets last a loooong time.
Wipe any external lube off your chain (after relubing) with a clean rag and it don't attract as much dust...

.. and elongation means if you measure 12 inches from one joint pin it should line up exactly with another one.

Someone I know uses one chain for 3000km, then switches to another then back again. Not sure the theory there.

Timely input from Lennard Zinn on all-over bicycle lubrication.
