Firstly, I must say I have one supportive (most of the time) partner, because at last count my cycling accoutrement amounted to:

• 17 jerseys/jackets
• 9 pairs of bib shorts/knickers
• 7 pairs of socks
• 4 pairs of shoes
• 4 sets of gloves
• 3 pairs of booties
• 3 pairs of knee/leg warmers
• 3 pairs of sunglasses
• 2 helmets
• 2 caps
• 1 gilet
• 1 pair of arm warmers

And 4 bikes!

When does enthusiasm spill over into obsession? How much is too much? Or is that heresy because that question need never be asked?

How much stuff do you have, and what does your partner think?

OK, Jim, what do you mean by "1 death trap"?
Ha! You should try rallying!
I saw the CVSA jerseys up close today - they are pretty snazzy. I am betting my lovely supportive partner couldn't possibly knock me back if I wanted to get one of those?! Though it might be a stretch if their were matching knicks, bootees, arm warmers, leg warmers, gilet and a cap??
Mate, all you need to do is sign up to be a part of the team, and you'll get one! No, we do not have matching knicks, booties, warmers, gilet or caps. YET! There is no cost for the jersey, but you are more than welcome to make a tax deductible donation if you wish.

Drop in to www.cancervoicessa.org.au, and go to the cycling link for details. Message Derek or myself if you want more details.

Our next training ride is on the 21st November, yep, next Sunday, and is listed in the events tab. Excellent group to ride with, and you'll fit in nicely to the fast group!
I knew if I hung out with cyclists for long, it would be bad for my wallet. The number of times I've been riding alongside someone who's looked across sympathetically and suggested something like..

''Yep, you wouldn't know yourself if you bought...''
or
'' You would improve by 20% if you had a new...''

Complete the sentence by inserting:
...carbon frame
...better wheels
...campi hubs
...blade spokes
...SRAM group set
...new pedals
...new cleats
...a carbon saddle
and even on Amy's, as my bike was creaking and groaning up Willunga Hill I got.. "mate, a carbon seat post would sort that problem out for you''.

Yep I've heard it all. And I don't even doubt that most of it's true. So now that you've all make me feel so moderate in my consumption of bike stuff, I'm going out this afternoon to start with some new shoes :-))
Point taken.. I'm not expecting any shortcuts! I started this roadie caper a year ago, and being the cheapskate I am, figured I'd use my old MTB shoes for for a while to see if the new hobby was gunna stick.

I said at the time that it would be a while before it was my bike holding me back, but I reckon it's not too extravagant to at least get the right shoes and pedals.

As for the rest of the tricky stuff.. well, I dunno. Although I can't help keeping a quiet eye on Evilbay and those discount websites.
too true.
see you out on a hill sometime.
cheers
Despite having a complete excess of cycling accoutrement, my wonderful lovely supportive partner bought me retro knicks and a jersey for my birthday. So too much stuff really is barely enough!

I got my dear friend the Badger to model the outfit for me -

a legend after my own heart!

Robert, I went to your enlarged photo to check out your $4,000 smile. Glad you are smiling to show of the dentistry work.
