I am new to Adelaide - I come from northern West Australia, so I am a bit un used to the wetness from the sky.  What do people wear when it is inclement?  Do you try to stay dry or just get dry at work?  Are waterproof panniers necessary (computer documents etc) or are there other tricks?  Looking forward to hearing your wisdom.

Goretex socks? Might have to look into that, cycle shop or camping?

Ex-army greatcoat, workboots, felt hat, balaklava, motor bike gloves.  (Just don't fall asleep riding home on a cold wet night when it's so warm and comfortable on the bike).  That's what it used to be for me.

My helmet has a plastic brim on it that keeps off the sun and most of the rain, especially keeps my glasses dry.  The beard helps keep my chin warm. (Sorry, ladies, not applicable for you, I hope.)

I don't ride so much in the rain now.  If it's too close for the car, then I will walk instead of riding - more shelter that way.

[My kids would probably say, "Dad, you're having a senior's moment."]

maybe I should stop waxing my chin!

I have an eight year-old Mountain Design Goretex jacket with a detachable hood.

It's a multipurpose jacket that I wear for cycling, running, bushwalking and a couple of times for sailing. It's brilliant and it still like new.
