Relatively new to this site and just wondering what the rules are regards putting up a discussion and then closing it off for replies. Is it at the Authors discretion? Not hoping to generate a lot of replies just the one explanation will do. Thanks.

If you are wondering why the lance discussion got closed - I chose to close it (if you want to do for your own discussion just go to My discussions and click edit from the options drop down list) before things got too heated. We've had the same debate many times on AC and its always the same - the list posted to the discussion was a pretty good summary of the previous discussions as well. And for a bit of context ET is my husband so I know he was stirring. Closing it was the easiest way to stop him!
Oh yeah - and people usually ignore any requests you make about the type of responses you want unless you have posted a game with rules - like name your favorite song, that sort of thing...

I particularly encourage closing off discussions that are of a specific event or related to a specific date. Discussions around community events (Bupa ride of Ride Like Crazy) should be left to capture everyone's feelings for a week or so then closed off. Other examples might be about accidents and info about particular changes to roads like closures etc. I closed the cyclist and the wire post so it cannot be raised again some months after the event by someone who wanted to make a comment and really I would prefer a new post to be created.
Members can;t delete a post it there are more than 2 replies. Ask me and I can do it.
Thanks all now I know. Even had a quick look at the Terms of Service as well. And Gillian according to Darren and Wattsy it was nice knowing you.
