I was aiming to to complete the two laps in 8 hours, but finished in just under 7.
if the Sun had shone, the day would have been perfect ( apart from that Sudan Hill bit at the 150-km mark ! :)
Roll on next year .....

Permalink Reply by Barry Norsworthy on October 10, 2011 at 9:43 Fantastic effort Peter. That Sedan hill was like being in the Sudan !!! -:). no wonder I did not see you as too far ahead !!! Strained my achilles tendon with about 60K to go and could not put much pressure on left leg. That Sedan hill was tough and from Keyton to Springton, seemed to be all uphill !!!!. Thanks to to the great support of the biksSa van following me in, I limped in to COMPLETE about 6.30PM !!!

Permalink Reply by Barry Norsworthy on October 10, 2011 at 10:01 @Pete. LOL You can say that again !!, but one overrid the other. I was determined to finish all 5 GS's before my 60th (next week) and was going to finish, even if I had to crawl !!!!
Barry you told me you were saddle sore after 1 hour, I can imagine what it would be like after 12. Did you eat your dinner standing up last night? LOL

Permalink Reply by Dave L on October 10, 2011 at 10:30 Congrats to all those who finished (or even attempted)
Managed to do both loops in 8hrs riding time.
Loop 1 was great and I averaged about 27kmph but loop 2 was tougher than I expected. Had back spasms going down into my legs when halfway up the Sedan hill. Walked for 100m and it all came good.
The last 7km back to MP was a real mind over matter exercise.
Thanks to BSA for another great event.
Many thanks to the outstanding efforts of the organisers/volunteers, you made it a great day for all of us
one of my personal goals is to do a 200 km ride by the end of the year. only being able to ride once a week, training for this is difficult but after 4 weeks off, the last two weekends ive managed a 60 & 80km ride.
I plan to have a few stops during this ride, how did you guys go with breaks? did you have any? anyone have a full meal at some stage or was it flat out for 200km?
any advice would be appreciated!
Permalink Reply by colin ware-lane on October 10, 2011 at 15:02 the ride rob had drink stops about every 25/30km and food at the start and some of the stops, most riders stop at least once and at the half way mark.
