Ride Summary:
48 riders turned up for the start and it looked as though the weather would not be kind to us. However the rain cleared well before the start of today’s GW ride.
A very special day for the Gawler Wheelers today for several reasons. Firstly AC VIP/Creator Angus (Special K) joined us for his first GW ride, accompanied by his close friend and domestique Simon. Wilson gave a brilliant speech to welcome Angus and to present him with a Gawler Wheelers jersey to mark the special occasion. It was a pleasure having you there Angus and Simon!
An international VIP from Sheffield UK who is in SA for a couple of weeks also attended the Gawler Wheelers ride today. Great to meet you Robbie, trust that you enjoyed the experience. Wattsy thanks for giving Robbie a lift from town. We also had our GW youngest ever newbie rider join us today . Fabian is 15 years old and he rode like a champion…definitely TDF potential!
Many people are really dedicated to the Gawler Wheelers and no more so than Craig who is getting married to Jodie today but still rode with us this morning…definitely has his priorities right!! We presented Craig with a card and the mandatory marriage rules that he must adhere to! Congratulations Craig and Jodie! Hope you have enough energy left for the celebrations tonight mate!!
Nice to see so many newbies join us today including Jeanette Angus, Simon, Tom, Roger, Tim, Matt and Fabian. Welcome to you all.
The ride itself was also eventful. We had a few of mechanical issues to deal with and a couple of punctures. Unfortunately on the leg home there was a crash and Shane suffered a broken collar bone that required a trip to hospital. He is being operated on today and we all hope that he has a very speedy recovery.
Back at Jaspers the big crowd basked in the morning sun…. and the conversations, laughter and celebrations lasted long into the glorious morning.
NEXT WEEK: Gawler Wheelers will hold two concurrent rides. A hill ride and a shorter beginners hill ride. Full details will be posted on AC Events tomorrow. You are invited to attend....newbies are very welcome. Today’s photo gallery follows:

I was delighted to meet some many nice riders in Gawler and it was a pleasure to ride this event with the help of Wattsy. Glad the sun came out and rain disappeared before we got to the cafe - that is very similar to the UK, Will mention the Adelaide Cyclists Forum and Gawler Wheelers on UK forums when I get back as I am sure other poms will be interested. A great day out for me.

You were our very first international VIP guest so we will always remember you...and it was great to see that you just fitted in so well. Trust that one day you will come out with us again. You better send the link to the ride report to your mates in the UK...just to show that Adelaide Cyclists and the Gawler Wheelers rolled out the red carpet out for you in South Australia!! Enjoy the rest of your stay and a safe return home.
Permalink Reply by Matt Brennan on October 10, 2011 at 20:20 Fantastic you could get out Robbie and great job by Wattsy helping out.
I hope the family reunion went well and your enjoying your other rides around Adelaide!
Maybe you could get Mr Branson to organise a charter flight for the TDU in January.
The secret to a long and happy marriage …….
“The Rules”
Jodie must always make the rules.
The rules are subject to change without notice.
Craig cannot possibly know all the rules.
If Jodie suspects Craig knows the rules she must immediately change some of them.
Jodie is never wrong.
If Jodie is wrong it is due to a misunderstanding directly caused by something Craig said or did.
Craig must immediately apologise for causing this misunderstanding.
Jodie may change her mind at any time.
Craig may never change his mind without Jodie’s permission.
Jodie has the right to be angry or upset at any time.
Craig must remain calm at all times unless Jodie wants him to be angry or upset.
Craig is expected to mind read at all times.
Jodie is ready when she is ready.
Craig must be ready at all times.
If Jodie has PMT then all rules are null and void.
If Craig does not abide by these rules then he has no backbone and is a wimp.
