Had an interesting day yesterday. Started out lunching at The Stirling Pub with some Geologist buddies and as is always the case lunch turned into dinner into an all day session.

About 5.30 I glanced outside the pub and noticed a bloke with a touring bike asking someone for directions. I popped outside and the guy turned out to be hopelessly lost having just come off the freeway from Murray Bridge. Yep he'd ridden all the way from Murray Bridge to Stirling on the freeway but didnt quite make it any further courtesy of the local constabulary who booked him and presented him with a  $108 fine.

Anyway Adam is the guys name and he's ridden all the way from Woollangong to Adelaide. He crashed at my house last night and tomorrow he's heading back to Wollangong via The Barossa so look out for him on the road...he's on a very heavily laden Masi(?) converted fixed wheeler. Hes got a huge yellow bag sitting on the carrier of the bike.

There is a Woollongong in NSW so maybe a typo of adding an a. A reasonable distance to ride. Sounds like he is doing the trip for the ride, because not staying long in Adelaide before he turns around.

I am unaware of any easy directions for touring cyclists or easy-to-buy maps at service stations for the Adelaide Hills. An expectation for touring cyclists to use the internet beforehand while on the other side of Australia or the world? If so, something that should be remedied, but how?

Considering the circumstances, would have been more welcoming of the police to give this tourist a caution.

There is a Wollongong in NSW (I was born there, so I am sensitive to misspelt corrections)

Woollongong...sorry. My excuse....Im a Kiwi.

WOLLONGONG

if you don't get the spelling right, I'll come around and rip your bloody arms off

we from the 'Gong don't worry about cautions or fines.

Aunty Jack was from Dapto wasn't she?

Either way that's a long ride. Pass on my best wishes and all the best for a safe ride home.

Unfortunately the days of our constabulary being a little more considerate seems to be long gone, replaced by KPIs and monthly targets.

I passed him on the express way the other day. He was grinding up a massive hill fully loaded and I thought, bloody hell, he's keen!!
Then I thought, bloody hell, that's illegal!!
Welcome to Adelaide, here's your $108 fine! I always love first impressions.

Guess that's why he turned straigh around!!  Kudos for putting him up Martin! ;)

The fine was a bummer but if he hadnt got done by the cop he wouldnt have ended up outside the Stirling Pub and he wouldnt have got a free feed and a bed for the night. I think things worked out pretty well overall.

Not sure what Adam's impressions of me were. After a very long lunch yesterday I wasnt exactly sober and after Adam returned from the bar carrying a bottle of champagne and two coffee martinis I rapidly went downhill and was barely able to walk home. Ive spent most of the day with a shocking hangover while Adam who must have had at least a mild hangover when he woke up this morning happily trundled off towards the city (via Ayers Hill Road and the bike path).
