temporary access road installed across the bike track. There are no signs on the bike track to warn of this and I do wonder if this could be an accident waiting to happen.
This photo was taken looking West from the Victor Harbor road end of the Coast to Vines bike/walking track. It comes as a complete surprise when heading East along the track.

I can see why this would happen as the local property will need different access when the McLaren Vale junction gets built. Does the road go all the way down to the current road bridge (where the last property to require access is situated)?
Someone will need to confirm but from memory it felt like it had been torn up as it felt like a sight drop onto the rough stuff. My memory is not that good but I was more concerned that vehicles could come straight across at any time and if distracted could catch a rider by surprise. It may be something to do with the overpass/flyover they are planning to access McLaren Vale from memory!

Thats my pleasure. Did it feel like the bike path had been ripped up an the access road layed through it to you ?
Permalink Reply by Michelle Crick on January 13, 2012 at 10:53 Yeah but again you forget after 20km + after you go over it.. we will be down there tomorrow no doubt so we can all check it out!
Went over it last night - I thought they may have made it especially for us to avoid the short Sth rd corner to get to california road :)
I didnt look too closely - I think they have just butted the new work up to either side of the track. The new work appears to be compacted crushed dolomite and actually felt smoother than the rail trail itself I thought :).....or maybe I was just excited.
