Right, so after getting caught in the rain twice in as many rides, I thought it might be prudent to ask. Glasses on, or off? It seems to me that there is no winning - glasses on and they fog up and/or get covered in rain, glasses off and you get rain in your eyes! Either way, vision goes down.

Its more than just an idea......it's standard procedure!

If it is a big issue.

This would depend on how bad your eyes are.

Are contact lenses worth considering?

I have never used contact lenses.

My sight is 20/20, Just not when there's rain in my eyes/on my glasses! I don't reckon contact lenses would help?

If it is absolutely pissing down, I just get off and wait it out - the hills when I have poor visibility and slick tires... danger zone.

Otherwise it's the ol' squint for me

And if you have a smartphone and signal you can watch the BOM radar to get an idea of how long you have to wait.  Also handy for planning the commute home.  It's saved me many a soaking.

My MGB has 'windscreen wipers' and a 'demister' ... I'm probably better off on the bike!

This question boils down to how good your eyes are. Mine are so useless there's no way rain and road muck (a bigger problem) can be worse than taking the specs off, though there are plenty of times when it comes close to an even choice. Big, tin, enclosed thingies with engines and heaters do make a lot of sense sometimes.

I've got a pair of Oakley Split jackets (smaller version of the Jawbones). Ive had them fitted with genuine Oakley prescription polarised lenses. The Oakley lenses do a pretty good job in the rain, they claim to coat them in all sorts of high tech coatings. I had the option to get them vented but didnt. The only time ive had them fog up is I stop for a while for a bite to eat and drink in the hills, then clear as soon as I move on, never while i'm riding.

I find it easier to see though glasses with water on them (especially the Oakleys)than an eye full of rain, grit and whatever else gets thrown up off the road
