This is a jacket by Nike called a Vapour Flash. Apparently this cyclist is illuminated by a regular torch light.

Sorry, it's from Flick and it seems they don't add the URL like YouTube and others do below.

Here it is http://www.flickr.com/photos/medevac71/7067279973/

I want to see it when illuminated from above by sodium vapour streetlights at 50m distance. Using a torch from the camera's point of view is not a real world simulation. The jacket must reflect ambient light to be useful in traffic.

Are you saying drivers don't have headlights?!?

Only if they are on high beam or aligned (illegally) too high. Low beam correctly aligned does not illuminate anything much above the centre line of the light. Ankle reflectors work better for that reason.

I think that even 'beam scatter' would make this jacket stand out like a sore thumb.

have seen someone on the shared path leading to glenelg with something similar..  it was incredibly bright..   very impressive :)

Excellent idea - I think in most circumstances there would be enough reflection to keep you visible.

Wonder if the reflective could be red on the back, white on the front?

Jilden, HPS is a thing of the past mate, they are all LED's now or I should say they are all being rolled out now and many already are and their light spectrum is way cooler than the old HPS and much better for High Vis clothing etc.

Good thinking 99, but I would still like to see one in light traffic, say Magill Rd at 7pm. Nothing but normal ambient street and vehicle lights. Compare it to a flashing tail light from any distance!

Very impressive, but this would be such an effective garment as to render the rider completely invisible from any distance and any angle in any light.

:)

bright is the new black - groan..
