As most members will probably know, scrapped tyres - even bicycle ones - are NOT acceptable for household waste disposal ( aka the wheelie bin). Maybe, like me, you have stockpiled a few in hope of a recycling solution at some future date...? Well, it's reached critical point in my limited shed space, so I started ringing around, beginning with the EPA. Two contacts from them turned out to be obsolete (!) but eventually I found "Reclaim Industries" at 5/550 Churchill Rd Kilburn ( 0730 - 1500 M -F. tel 8262 3207) where you can drop off tyres at a cost of $1.00 + GST each. This is a discount on the cost of a **car** tyre, which is somewhat more ! However, before I commit myself, I'd like to check in case there is another possibility. Can anyone assist ?
Well, we got down there,, with around 20 tyres from my stockpile, goung back many years. To tell the truth, I was not looking forawrd to having to pay $20.00 + GST for the sake of my eco-conscience, especially since everybody else I have asked about this says " I put 'em in the wheelie bin..". However, the gods were smiling on me, 'cause one of the guys there appears to read THIS VERY WEBSITE and offerred to waive the fees (!!), not just for me, but for anyone else who comes in with a domestic load of bike tyres.....so now there's no excuse to resort to the wheelie bin !
