Forecast tomorrow is 25 degrees, so a nice day to cycle. AC has 2,300+ members. How many of you will be cycling tomorrow between 7am and 9am?
Some of us are counting bicycles / cyclists which will give an indication of how many cycle where. I hope the other members will be on their bikes and give us a wave.
Counting taking place in Cities of Adelaide, Charles Sturt and West Torrens. Three BUG members will be down at the beach. Three other BUG members are counting but I do not know their locations. (BUG as in Adelaide & Prospect.)
I'm counting @ corner of Grange and South Roads - so wave or toot if you are passing :)
I'm on Park Tce at the end of Melbourne St for the third year in a row and last year the numbers were down. Flip me the bird as you pass by.
I would normally pass through here, but with all the road works along Walkerville Terrace, it is a bit of a detour to get to this year.
Good to meet you this morning Angus. I don't know if the count locations are pre-ordained but have you considered going to the opposite side of Park Tce where Melbourne Street begins? A lot of cyclists use Mann Tce on the opposite side, cross over Melbourne Street before turning right onto Mackinnon Parade. That's my usual route but I came across to say hello and boost numbers. Most of the people you were counting seemed to be heading towards Melbourne Street anyway. If you moved, you could count both sets of traffic to get a more accurate picture.
Good to meet you too! It's been where I've sat for three years and I wondered how many I can't see. I will let them know for next year and tell them there could be a statistical error.
I will be at the roundabout intersection of Henley Beach and Seaview Roads. Maurice will be on the cycle route 3-way intersection of The Esplanade and Henley Beach Road. Joan on The Esplanade near Main Street. I chose the sites so we could leave the fewer sites near the city available for commuters to select. Also so we could drive down together. Joan and Maurice only cycle a little and are both aged over 70, so great of them to help and raise BUG funds. None of us looking forward to getting up earlier than when we counted on the inner ring route.
Saw you this morning Heather, from the middle of a 20 plus strong bunch so was focussed more on staying upright than saying g'day!
Yes, a group of 26 that I made obvious I was trying to count, so no time to say hullo myself. Plus a tail-end who went a different direction. There were so many groups before 7am that were not included in the count.
It was down a rider a few minutes later, when a clash of wheels lead to a broken collar bone!
There are quite a few bunches around that area that time of the morning. Most are pretty good, and the motorists, as a rule, are amazingly co-operative!
Your group was fast, so madly counting as you went round the corner. I was surprised by the number of flashing bicycle lights we saw early on, as we 3 arrived by car. At 6.45am I was chatting with Maurice on The Esplanade and saw several groups go through. Took up position before 7am and called out to a few groups, "You are __ minutes too early to be counted". After 7am only 2 big groups, numbering 26 and 12. Do groups of cyclists also train on Military Road?
Most cyclists appeared alert confident experienced and wearing lycra. Otherwise with the traffic, roundabout, and many vehicles not stopping at the stop sign or line, could have been unpleasant. I positioned myself behind the bollards for safety.
I assume this map is wrong ?
I wanted to find a map in case I need to do a diversion to get counted. Usual route is Beulah Road, Rundle Street, (Cibo), Frome Road, U of A.
