Hi, unfortunately I witnessed yet another novice cyclists come to some considerable grief down the bay today. Wheel of her flat bar fell into the tram tracks, and she hit the deck quite hard-hope her collar bone is ok - would need a scan I think.

The Marion/Holdfast BUG has previously asked for simple signs to be sprayed on the road as you enter and leave the bay "cyclists-watch out for tram tracks" but they say too many signs there already-so no go. All I can say is - careful guys anywhere near the tram tracks, cya, pedro

I had an interesting time today, got the front wheel in the tracks and had a bit of a fun slide. Lucky I was on the mountain bike, not my road bike.

Hello, I'm visiting Adelaide this coming week and plan to cycle Thursday and Friday. We'll be staying in the CBD I think, so I'll have to get some maps. Do you know of any groups that cycle on these days of the week? I've had a look at a few of the cycling clubs...I'm not a racer but am training for Around the Bay in Melbourne mid-October and want to keep my training rides going. Any suggestions...other than avoiding the tram tracks (which I'll certainly endeavour to do!)?

Have you got lights? Thursday night ride

Hi Louise I might be heading out for a ride or two this week (exc Wed) along the coast write on my wall to let me know if you want to catch up.

as for maps - try this Dept of Transport 'Cycling Instead' link - really useful

Thanks, Lee-Anne, once we're in Adelaide (sometime Wed night),  I'll contact you again to see if we can catch up Thursday or Friday. I'm not even sure exactly where we're staying but I'm assuming it's right in the city itself. I'll also look for maps with the link you sent, thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have lights , however riding in the dark on roads unfamiliar to me is probably not the best idea for my first ride in Adelaide. I checked out the description of the ride, which sounds okay unless I can't keep up and then get lost! I think I might stick to daytime rides given I'm only visiting for 2 days.

Thanks, again! Perhaps if I'm visiting for longer next time...

I'd suggest contacting Bicycle SA, they may have a few groups riding on those days, in addition they might have a few free maps, if you have a particular destination in mind log onto Cycle Instead they offer a free on line service, you can put in your starting point and destination and ask for fastest or low traffic or maximum use of cycle paths.

Check into this site and ask some more direct questions and let us know what suburb you are staying in plenty of favourite rides amongst our large membership. Best flat ride is probably the coast from Outer Harbour and head souuth for as long as you like. Plenty of hills rides where you will see other cyclists and can ask for directions if you're lost.

Thanks for that. I've certainly heard about the Adelaide Hills! I'll check out the 'Cycle Instead' site when I arrive and know where I'll be starting from.

I came out of Gloria Jeans this arvo and saw a girl picking herself up after running into tram track avoiding a jay walker. Not injured but really worried about her brand new Oppy 5. The chain had fallen off and she thought it was broken. Managed to help her out with the chain, no apparent damage to bike, forgot to give her the speel about AC. Bugger.

I came a cropper on those tram lines in March you won't see me going over them again

My Niece crashed her 50cc scooter on one of those years ago.

We're from Whyalla and she hadn't learnt about tram/train tracks and bikes!

:-(

Seen many a broken collar bone because of tram and train lines....fortunately the worst I have ever had is a front and back blow outs crossing the train line in Mildura.....
