To the guy sent into orbit this morning about 9.45 by a small un-restrained dog running into his new 29er as he came down a slope on the path heading toward the city, under the O-Bahn, just east of Stephen Terrace bridge ...
I hope you are OK, that the wait for an ambulance wasn't too long, and that the arm/shoulder & shock aren't as bad as they first appeared. The 3 or 4 walkers attending you seemed to have it in control and did a good job (regardless of their/their dog's involvement in the incident) ... best wishes.
I continued east along the linear park up to Gorge Road and in that time could've been taken out by several other off-leash dogs - stay alert riders!
I wonder id the Media would report "dog attack puts man in hospital"?
I was cruising down Norton's today and a rabbit ran across my path... I was surprised more than anything else
Lol, I had a bird fly between my legs through the frame when I was hurtling down Gully Rd recently, surprised the crap out of both of us I think!
Just as well through the frame and not the wheel.
Ouch ouch ouch just at the thought... that never occurred to me Heather!
Today I drove my car, a rare occurrence for me. As I turned left into a bikedirect route, I was surprised by a car turning into the same street, on the wrong side of the road! He then stopped, so I stopped behind to ask if he had realised that it was 'no right turn' into this street. He said he had not turned right, but come straight across the main road from another street. Actually an off-set cross road, so came diagonally not straight. He insisted that he was not on the wrong side of the road. I explained that he was, as the traffic island prevents entry from that direction unless on the wrong side of the road. He still could not grasp that. Silly drivers, and on bikedirect routes!
Gemma, for a lone female cyclist on Linear Park, I would also suggest looking out for perverts when dark. Media reports of female walkers accosted during the day.
To me, Linear Park, is not a race track. So if i do ride this, i do ride at a pace where i look out for either dogs parents with children etc. its a Shared Parth and more than care needs to be taken.
I do hope that the Guy recovers well.
Definately be alert along the Linear Park. At Allenby Gardens on the Linear Park about 6 months ago in the distance I could see a cyclist talking sternly to a teenage girl. Then her out of control dogs ran up alongside me on my bike. I didn't panic and stopped to politely state my concerns about her dogs. She then swore at both of us, which prompted the other cyclist to swear at her. Then she told him that he shouldn't be swearing at her because she was a child and he was an adult. After that we all parted ways. I sincerely hope that the teenage girl and her dogs haven't caused an accident since.
