The Veloway tunnels - be careful

Heading towards the tunnel coming off the veloway and onto C2V at Sheidow Park tonight a MTB fanging round the corner at 30kph or so and not giving way. That's the third rider I've seen in a fortnight doing that, there are two Give Way signs but it seems that's not enough. Maybe riders coming along from Hallett Cove should give way to riders coming down the hill off the Veloway, there is going to be a nasty accident there soon.

Also there was a guy sat on a seat with a clip board who appeared to be counting cyclists, not sure why.

That corner has claimed cyclist in the past, with ambos having to attend, looks like it may happen again by what you have described.

My supervisor at work lives on Cormorant Drive, Hallett Cove. He was saying a cyclist came unstuck in a nasty crash. The police where there for quite a few hours. Does anyone have anymore details?

Quick - get some repeats happening Pat - sounds like a cost cutting exercise is about to happen.

It is a nasty corner that one.  I pretty much try to come to a stop exiting from the veloway.

I should have stopped and asked what he was doing. I might go back this arvo and see if he is there again today.

Wayne mentioned sometime ago about a route change/reconfiguration at the tunnels, maybe they are counting how many cyclist come from each particular direction.

If he was counting grumpy old men who shout at irresponsible MTB riders then he got one at about 4 O'Clock.

from memory there will be a big reroute of the bike track there.


Im more wondering if it is going to be a government 'we only counted one grumpy cyclist using the Veloway in our audit, so as there is little use we will save some $$$ and the bike riders can find their own way'

He's counted me several times over the last couple of weeks. I did notice he had changed his position from being on the track to off to one side, so it's definitely a person rather than a mannequin.

The plan is to re route the cyclist on the new fly over. So no more tunnel.

I don't think the Veloway tunnel is going, just the C2V link tunnel.

Two more tonight, First one pulled straight out as I was 10m or so back from the V Way tunnel, I was just about to comment when I saw him look back to warn his mate who pulled straight out along side me, luckily I was expecting him and avoided him.

Maybe we need traffic lights or bigger signs or something.
