Last night I was visited by the puncture imp, within 2k of home. It was dark, wet and blowing something fierce. Perfect phone-a-friend weather.
Imps can visit without being seen in this weather.
Funnily enough, this happened only 500m after passing someone and joking with them about the wonderful weather. And only minutes after I'd thought 'Been a while since I punctured.' And then tried furiously to take that thought back…
The wind this week has been character building. Slow as a snail one way, yeeee-ha the other. With lots of being blown sideways for variety. I've found that motorists have been quite considerate really. The only complaints I've had have been from the legs.
But all up, its actually been quite good fun, and certainly has left me with a sense of achievement. And a weather-beaten bike. And work colleagues who think I'm nuts.
Hopefully the weather will be better this weekend and the bike can get reaquainted with soap and lubricant.
And I can get out for a weekend ride without a backpack, a deadline, and a set route.
Anyone else had a fun week commuting?

Permalink Reply by Fred Rochler on August 17, 2012 at 21:24 Hmmm... I only venture out on days where the forecast is either 'a shower or two' or better. Most times I've been lucky so far. But if it looks really bad I'm not gonna ride. At least I don't put the bike away altogether in winter though, I'll ride in a couple of times a week at least.
