*sigh*
What do other people avoid during the weekend of bogan?
Share your tips...
I avoid commuting at night during Clipsal weekend because there seems to be more show ponies out revving their engines and attempting things that most regard as stupid and endangering the lives of others. I generally avoid going to the fringe during this weekend too because the drunk tools that rock up after the racing are annoying at best.
To quote Happy Gilmore: "I think I saw two bikers (V8 bogans) having sex in the woods (parklands)"

Permalink Reply by Trevor Hill on March 3, 2012 at 18:37 On Friday I rode to Hallett Cove station and caught the train into town with the bike. It's great that they let you travel on the train for free, just show your day ticket. You think that with any major event that they would try and promote bike use by having some dedicated secure bike park area just inside or outside the track. On the Clipsal500 website there is a list of things you can and cannot bring into the track. Bikes weren't on the list, so I thought thats good I can put my bike inside the fence and lock it up, but no, security wouldn't allow me to park my bike inside. Mine was the only one by the gate on Grenfell/East but saw about 20 bikes outside the gate on Hallifax/East. I personally think that with major events, secure bike barking should be mandatory.
Will be taking the bike in again tomorrow, lets hope it's still there at the end of the race!

Contact Adelaide City Council and ask for it to be made mandatory that large events in their council area, must provide bicycle parking. Especially events that use a public area that require ACC permission. Sounds like you also want it to be free supervised bicycle parking, and well promoted. Let me know the outcome.

Permalink Reply by rossmg on March 1, 2012 at 20:13 Well I usually ride my MtBike on to Dequettville Tce (sp?) and stand on it looking over the fence and watch the cars zoom around - hell! I drive as well! V8 grunt is fun :-)

I go every year and I think the 'bogan' issues are the minority, I mostly see families and groups enjoying themselves.

certainly any time people put up a fence so they get elusive use of the parkland to supply some bike boxes like the STA doe at rain stations and bus stops seems doable.
