I rode in from the Parade Kensington this morning around 8:30 ands I was unpleasantly surprised to see someone riding their scooter down the footpath on the Parade at Kensington for about 500 m just before Portrush Rd.

I continued riding into town muttering to myself about the idiocy of some people and I noticed something that more than made up for the motor cycle rider. Several cars stopped on Bartels Rd and held up peak hour traffic while some ducks finished crossing the road.

I wonder : were the ducks riding bikes ...?
LOL - the best and the worst!
FWIW - I generally avoid Bartels Rd, way too narrow for my liking. The Parde West has a great bike lane..

The bad. At 5.55pm today I was almost hit by a driver who stopped at a stop sign, then turned right without indicating. I was walking from my neighbour's to home. Yelled, "indicator, indicator", and pointing. The driver stopped just in time to avoid hitting me, wound down his window a fraction so I could hear his, "shut up", then drove off. I did not get his registration number, but shortly afterwards, wished I had.

I was walking on a bikedirect route. Just realised I was wearing my T-shirt of 'keep bicycle lanes'.

What is it about duck aura?  Maybe it's only impression, but the lack of duck carnage on the roads compared to their lacks-a-daisy-cal crossings is surely worth a study.  They seem to do a lot better than most/all other species.  Should we start dressing as ducks?
Brian, would surely be safer than wearing 'keep bicycle lanes' T-shirt. It helped me collect 3,433 signatures for a cycling petition. Sometimes the T-shirt results in abuse. Fortunately most of the time I get positive feedback, like cheers as a cyclist goes past.
I was thinking the same thing BJ. I want to dress as a duck and see if they stop for me as an experiment. lol
Sue, will you be wearing a duck costume to the Mad Hatters Ride?

No, sorry to disappoint. :-)

I have another costume I'm working on.

Costume I thought it was just mad hats?
Some people will just do hats but some of us like to go the full costume with these dress up rides.

The Bad.  Yesterday I had a motorcycle riding in the bike lane down Frome Rd approaching the Womens and Childrens Hospital. Although I was annoyed at having to slow for him, I wasn't too concerned, until he came to an uneccessary abrupt halt and tried to merge back into the stationary traffic. It appears he didn't want to pass the police car three places ahead.

Come to think of it I frequently encounter motorcycles on Frome Rd when approaching Melbourne street in both directions.

Mark, if you get the registration number and full details, you can report to SAPOL Traffic Watch on 131 444.
