I'm in the process of designing the Official TDU 2013 merchandise. Been doing it a few years. Anywho, thought of designing a 'willunga hill' style tee and a 'past winners' style tee. I try to design gear that suits a broad cycling demographic. I can never be sure im hitting the mark. I'd just like to know what people think and what they'd like to see as part of the overall look.

Who do you work for, I want your job!

Sorry, must be a glitch in my software…

Less red perhaps? [If you mean the TDU jerseys we all got to ride the event.]

I'm thinking Assos style with a stylised hill, riding up the curved edge of a eucalyptus leaf perhaps…

It's the official merchandise that i design. Basically the gear you see hanging up when you walk into the village. Also all the little merch vans you see at the start and finish. Polo shirts, tshirts, all the ochre and blue gear you see floating around. I get a lot of comments from a lot of customers on the gear thru the retail guys. Some good, some bad. Essentially I'm just hunting for some feedback from actual riders. I ride myself so I try to inject some ideas into the range from a cycling perspective. I've designed gear for the UCI in the past like the gear for the Geelong world champs and the amateur ride jersey that accompanied it.

"shut up legs"

Re the Bupa jerseys; full length zippers and more colour would only improve them.

and re T shirts..Id like something like : "Checker Hill = Conquered"  (ony because that was/is hard !! and I reckon 1000s of others on that Bupa ride thought so too !)..

your idea of a past winners T, has merit also

Good luck with it.

Rob when did you go up Checker - do you mean Menglers or did you get lost :o) - Or have I got the wrong year.

Three words mate ,, BIG , BOLD & BRIGHT ....

Seems to me that theres some confusion here. It's not about the BUPA ride jersey but about general merchandise. If you know the route for the 2013 BUPA ride maybe a graphic of the toughest hill with a slogan e.g. I feel a hunger for Willunga. Checker Wrecker. Ready to tear Belair.

As for the BUPA jersey I liked this years red one, nice fabric, colour, pockets, fit and full zip.

I hated last years green, colour and fabric terrible.

Seen a few old yellow ones around that I like but I didn't ride that year.

Correct. It's the official merchandise not the BUPA jersey. Polo shirts, men's and ladies tees and tanks. Caps, hats etc etc. all featuring the official logo. As you walk into the tour village all the official merchandise is on display and that's what I'm responsible for basically.

ah, OK.

Scott does not appear to have anything to do with the Bupa ride tops as they are not sold in the merchandising area they are only available if you ride.

I like the idea of a Willunga T shirt and a past winners would be interested to see the designs before I committed to buy it though. Any chance of a preview?

Also correct. I've been doing the willy hill trek to watch the race for the past three years. This year was just such an awesome vibe and got me thinking of our that could be captured/encapsulated in a design. A past winners struck me as a possibility due to the number of Aussies who've won the race.

Hi Scott

IMHO - you could go one of 2 ways:

1 - Bold design and/or colours that leave no doubt it is a cycling related top/polo or even more specifically a cycling Willunga Hill top/polo

2 -  A more subtle top/polo that still has a cycling and Willunga Hill theme but you could still get away with wearing at non cycling gatherings. This type of top may suit a broader demographic???

I like that new "quick dry" style of material over the standard cotton T shirt, but that is just my personal preference.

I have 2 TDU polo tops. One is the 2009 navy top with some small orange and white embroidery on the left hand side. This one is subtle and I wear it to quite a few non cycling gatherings and even at work. The other one is a predominantly white top with some blue and orange on the sides and embroidery on the left hand side. Its cooler to wear, but gets dirty very easily, and the white is not very flattering on a rotund gut.  The ride like crazy polo I have is a bit more bold, with a sloping chequered design in purple and white on the bottom half. My son doesnt like the purple, so doesnt wear his RLC jersey. For him, colour is a consideration. For me, design and fabric is a consideration. For my wife, money is a consideration. Go figure!??!?

In terms of a design for a Willunga Hill top, probably a curved uphill road design? I'm not good at doing PC based designs but Ive had a go at making a basic concept. lol! I know its a shocker, but at least its a suggestion.
