Very happy with the results this year. Completed the Norwood to Strathalbyn route in 4 hours and 33 minutes. It was such a glorious day, I then rode back to make it a 200+ KM day :)

How did the rest of you go?

PS Jim, lots sprinted past me on the way up Checkers Hill. I saw a lot of them resting at the top, as I cycled past. Was thinking the race proper will be a while yet :)

how was the hill? was there carnage as predicted? large number of riders detour past this mound of dirt??

how did the pros find the hill??

lots and lots of people walking.

I came up the Hill about 8am and there were more walking than riding even then...

While struggling for breath, I tried to politely (?) ask those walking to move to the side of the road for the sake of those coming up.  But I didn't see any carnage.

Among the group around me, very few took the shortcut detour.  Was surprised to find many of those attempting the hill had not ever tried it before!

I saw lots taking the Paris Creek Rd detour when riding back from Strath

Well done to you Nick - I'm impressed.

Four hours 58 minutes for me.  Pretty pleased with that, but I assume Jim would've been a long way ahead!

Thats a good time - we left just before the official start time to avoid some of the multitudes - lots of others had the same idea though.

Did Jim do this ride? Didn't see him out on the road or at the oval!

I didn't see him at all - but then I didn't expect to see him.  I saw only 1 other Cancer Voices jersey - going past me at about the 50 km mark - not sure who it was, but it wasn't Jim!

One of the guys from my other cycling group ended up with a jersey that had Cancer Voices SA on it. Not sure if there were others?

5hrs 9min which was actually from my door step (138Km) which is just by the round about at the top of The Parade. I was hoping for a sub 5hr ride so I'm pretty stoked with that - Av 26.6Km/hr to the oval.

Didn't see any "carnage" however my friend saw a guy fall off of his bike and take out 3 others!

Not that many took the Checkers detour as I passed, and yeah seemed plenty who had never attempted before.

Funny thing was that as there were so many riding up I couldn't cycle up at my regular pace and arrived at the top in much better condition - so much so that I could actually put on 2 or 3 spurts as going up to get into gaps and didn't need to stop at the top to catch my breath! Go figure - LOL!

Totally impressed that people rode back - we "car-ed" it.

the funny thing is that my husband was next to the guy that fell over on his back and the bike was upside down. (but he didn't know him).

And the guys photo ended up in the advertiser on saturday....

The photo shows my husband holding the guys tyre.

A great day...5hrs 15min (or there abouts) for me.  Total time with breaks.

Rode home for a 218km day - slow trip home!

Checker was OK, saw a couple of people just stop dead and get off without any warning - you had to be on the look out at all times.  I got over it ok and continued on down the road to try and avoid the traffic jam at the top.  I think the road from Macclesfield to Meadows was worse as there were lots of slow/in-experienced riders on this section.  Not complaining, we all have to start somewhere and at least they were giving it a go.

I had a good ride today, tried my best to stay on Jim's wheel but failed miserably. Checkers beat me yet again but a hold no shame in walking.Once again I teamed up with Maz and Paul when i bumped into them at the BalhannaI rest stop. Clocked over 147km today, my biggest ever and I'm still feeling it.

My time was 5:10:52 with an avg of 25.7

This was my first and probably last TDU ride, simply too many people.
