First off this is Gemma ... the Boss, Chief Honcho, Da Gal but she was a bit busy this afternoon ... so I have editorial control ...

Today we rode our fortnightly Hills Spin. The sun is starting to come up earlier each week and as a result more and more people are riding. Without any doubt our rides are getting longer and steeper.

13 starters this morning 3 were new riders.

The Gully Grinders rode approx 60km and climbed about 1km. The roads were quiet so we could hear the wildlife through the morning mist.

Our route took into the hills pretty promptly. Up Range Rd North and through Upper Hermitage where we made our way towards Houghton, then up and around Chain of Ponds for a regroup,

Then onwards to Kersbrook..  ;-)  along the way there's another big hill.

Anyway there were plenty of other good hills this morning.  It wasn't that cold and the sky was dry and overcast. A few more good hills and we got to One Tree Hill and came down along Black Top Rd before we climbed back up the hill from Main North Rd to the Bakery.

In 2 weeks the group is considering riding the route the other way, following reasonably closely half of  the BUPA 2013 route to Kersbrook before returning to Golden Grove. Just my opinion but the BUPA ride this year is not as flat as some people think.

The first half of the BUPA is where most of the challenging hills are.

Rode my first Gully Grinders ride today and it was great fun.  The route was good and took me on some roads have not ridden before.

Though did have to ride it in the small ring(technical difficulties) so I was spinning on the flats and downhill parts. But must say the Grove Way was easy in the small ring then being stuck in the big ring, which was how rode up the first time to the start.

I would highly recommend joining the Gully Grinders for a Sunday ride.

Thanks to Gemma and everyone else it was fun.

after a few weeks away i joined the grinders for a nice ride.Footy is on next week so will go again the following one. Good group to ride with

Slightly different attack route this morning : McIntyre Rd instead of the usual ascent of The Grove Way.  This was primarily because  I  had struggled so much on the GW ride the day before - I wasn't sure how the legs would behave today.  No need to worry.  The legs appear to be back to normal.  Really enjoyed the ride today  &  encouraging to see so many newbies.  Hopefully the legs stay good for several more weeks to come.............

Thanks for putting up the ride report Roger... although this is why I always stay safely behind the camera taking the snaps - the ride report then does not have any pictures of me looking happy but disheveled :-)

It was a good ride and my legs found it easier going than the last time, which was pleasantly surprising considering I've been off the bike a bit of late. Two visits from the puncture fairy this week, first one I got in almost the same place as the last time we rode this route. The second, went to Dean at the bottom of the Grove Way... but at least luckily for him, someone had decided to dispose of a nice cushy chair on the side of the road.

He and I were riding together till i suggested we go up Target Hill together, and he chose the highway and we separated till the bakery section of the ride.

Anyway seems he chose the route with the broken beer bottles.

Congratulations on your Checkers success Roger . I might join you on that detour next time a GG ride goes past there ?

Thankyou Michael,

I think we will go past from the other direction in about 10 days ...

Checkers is totally over the top for a Sunday group spin so really I think we should just ride across from Kersbrook to to the top of Tippet Road and return (sort of like usual) .. however

the longer option remains for the dedicated masochist - Up Checkers, or Torrens Hill or both ..

Great ride ,, I love that loop .
The weather was fine ,, a heavy fog in the hills then plenty of sunshine & then overcast when I rode home . I felt strong during the ride , but legs weren't moving very fast near the top of The Grove hill .    I worked up a healthy hunger & set a P.B. in the Bakery ..
Great company & I enjoyed meeting a few new biker friends .
Looking great Gemma .
