A bit of an update on the SEXY duplication. Bridge closures begin very soon. If you don't know they are closing alternating bridges along the 19kms. One of the main disruptions for the veloway will be at Beach Rd where cyclists will need to watch out for detour signs and use the new crossings.
DPTI have been asked to make the signage clear, unlike the rail extension signs that left some lost.
SOUTHERN EXPRESSWAY DUPLICATION - MAY 2012 BRIDGE CLOSURES AND CYCLIST AND PEDESTRIAN DETOURS
The $407.5 million duplication of the Southern Expressway will deliver an 18.5 kilometre multi-lane, two-way expressway between Bedford Park and Old Noarlunga by mid-2014.
From May 2012, three bridges crossing the existing expressway (Seacombe Road, Elizabeth Road and O'Sullivans Beach Road bridges), will be closed to traffic whilst road and bridge construction works are underway. During these closures cyclist and pedestrian access across the closed bridges will not be available. Detours will be in place, with traffic management and directional signage for guidance.
The Shared Use Path between Elizabeth and Beach Roads will also be closed for the duration of the bridge and interchange construction. A detour will be in place to direct cyclists and pedestrians around construction areas. At this stage of the project the remainder of the veloway and shared use path on the eastern side of the expressway will remain unaffected.
Also during this time traffic restrictions will be in place on Beach Road, however cyclist and pedestrian access will be maintained.
The Coast to Vines track will also be closed at Hackham Creek, Noarlunga Downs from May 2012 to allow the expressway underpass to be extended. Again, alternative route detours will be in place.

The closures will affect the section of veloway between Majors Road and Lander Road. Detours will be put in place and will be marked with directional signage and detour maps. The detour route is approximately 1.6km longer than the existing 2.4m of closed veloway and utilises the road network along Majors Road, Adams Road, Heysen Drive and Lander Road.
The details of the short-term closures are as follows:
· Thursday 7th June 2012, from 7am to 7pm – the veloway will be closed between Majors Road and Lander Road. Although the Expressway will remain open at this time, the ETSA works will impact on the veloway only.
· Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th June 2012: the veloway will be closed from 7am on the 16th and reopening late Sunday evening to allow for commuting traffic on the Monday morning (18th June). The Southern Expressway will also be closed to motorist traffic on the 16th and 17th June.
