This one has kinda snuck up on us... GS3 heads out from Yankalilla this weekend. Weather looks pretty bleak character building, as does the 120km route. Who's in this weekend? Any special preparation for what looks like a wild one!

Permalink Reply by Dave L on May 22, 2012 at 20:59 Sadly, I'm going to miss this one. Still recovering from a stack a few weeks ago. I was really looking forward to it as well, a real 'character builder' this time of year.
I hope everyone has an excellent safe ride.
I am booked in for the 2 loops..but that may change! I went out and did some laps at the Dirty Weekend at the start of May and my excellent (not!) mountain bike skills were a little lacking and I took some big stacks. Loved every minute of it but have taken awhile to recover. To add to this I have been struck down with the "Man Flu" this week, so it could be a real challenge.
We (the family) are booked into stay at the caravan park in Normanville, so no early starts and the cabin has a spa bath...so if it gets too tough I will be retreating to our humble accommodation!

Permalink Reply by Darren on May 23, 2012 at 13:12 A few of us GW riders are sharing a house in Normanville. I'll be there Friday on a red/white/black Pinarello. :)
Both loops for sure. Can't wait as any time on my bike is a great day regardless of terrain. Missed the last one as was doing an Audax ride, and I'll miss the next one also due to doing another Audax ride in Far North Queensland. Bring on the warmth and sunshine up there. I here the last one was a good ride as well. Heaps of people and the weather was good. But maybe not the case this weekend (weather wise).
Permalink Reply by Darren on May 23, 2012 at 16:46 I'm gathering numbers may be down given the combination of travel distance and mongrel weather... will be interesting!
Signed up for both....will do both
Issues last year prevented the completion of Grand Slam for me...
Not this year...come hell or highwater...
But Sunday may be both if this wind keeps up
i'll be there if weather isnt too nasty, though just for 1 loop. i'm still quite the softie! although, fingers crossed, every day the calm/dry change is seeming to be coming earlier and earlier. it's now due sunday evening. a couple of days ago, it was due mon evening.
Permalink Reply by Keith Davies on May 25, 2012 at 8:43 I'm in for the 120, it seems the weather forecast in slightly improved from earlier in the week. So no matter what the weather it will beat working.
Permalink Reply by Matt Brennan on May 26, 2012 at 15:18 Partly cloudy. Isolated showers contracting to the south around midday. Winds south to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light during the afternoon. Overnight temperatures falling to between 5 and 9 with daytime temperatures reaching between 12 and 16.
I can live with an isolated shower
Permalink Reply by Peter Hill on May 26, 2012 at 15:32 if it is going to be anything like this morning and this afternoon, should be near perfect conditions.
My personal challenge tomorrow will be going past the bakery, atleast twice, without stopping.
